If this is about a billing adress, as is said in the form, does it need to be identical with the own living adress or could it be as well workplace, relatives (possibly even from different countries) or somebody completely unrelated?
Beside that, the only way this behaviour could be justified in my eyes, is if from now on Valve actually does send physical letters and non-automated calls to confirm store purchases.
The platform keeps "improving". I bet with you folks, before the 2020s are over, they will go away from the model of permanent purchases and charge a low cent amount per game launch.
What about all those who do not have and do not want or cannot get a phone number?
If two family members living in the same house share a landline, are these now going to be "duplicate accounts", despite have two different IRL people behind them?
I think steam should delete the phone number box for wallet purchases.
I do not believe that Valve needs a phone number to fill out a tax form. I am fine with giving out the rest, but a phone number? This is unnecessary. Many people live their lives without a phone.
Many people can share a landline if they live at the same address. Are they all suddenly duplicate accounts (they even have many of the same games and similar playtime of those games on each account=must be duplicate accounts!)?
Some families only have one phone per household, even if each family member of legal age to do so has a steam account.
Please know that I am not criticizing you.
I will not buy anything from Steam as long as this issue persists.
Edit: And to demand that info for using wallet funds that you already have purchased is just ridiculous.
