Stuck on starting. Nothing wants to download.
I uninstalled and re-installed Steam because nothing wanted to update anymore.

It was totally out of the blue, Steam was working fine not long ago. Now, nothing wants to download at all. I can barely log into Steam, I'm forced to start in offline mode and try going online repeatedly and praying it works.

When I say I've tried everything I mean EVERYTHING. Changed download regions, fiddled with my network settings and firewall, if there's a setting to be changed I've tried it but now I'm just stuck with a screen stuck on starting a download, stopping and going to the next thing in the cue, repeat, repeat, repeat. I can't play anything. Nothing even starts downloading, it just shows the line then stops again.

Is there anything I can do? Is the problem on Steam's end? Am I locked out of all my games, now uninstalled after I uninstalled the app? I'm at my wit's end. Please tell me what's going on!

Boot your OS in safe mode with networking and see if you can then launch Steam without any issues.

Do as Robin says, and report back.

But to add another thing that may be relevant is to ask you if you're overlooking a few basic rules? These are often ignored.

That is download space.

For a start, Steam requires you to use NO MORE THAN 90% of the hard drive you're using or you will get issues with steam not running properly.

On top of this, as games are downloaded compressed and encrypted, they require swap space to do this work, so if you donwload any game, you will need to allow up to THREE TIMES the total file size.

For example, if you have a 1TB drive and you've used 850GB of it, you're within that 90%. However, as you have just 50GB left to play with, you CANNOT download a 50GB game, as it would require up to 150GB to do its work.

So make sure this doesn't apply to you.

from no network to Download thats 1 thingy

to have a steam client and it work and single player game, should still work.

if you have a MS ip-adr. 169.254.x.x then you have DHCP issue.

im pretty sure its you or isp, or you will see so many post with steam is down.
