Most cost effective way to get Steam Points?
Would it be more cost effective for me to get Steam Points by doing multiple small microtransactions in a game or buying an expensive game?

if you want to play an AAA game then sure you should probably buy the AAA game and get 60 dollars worth of steam points.

but if you spend 60 dollars on tf2 keys or csgo capsules, that would mean you would have 60 dollars worth of items that can be sold on the market at a loss of 20% market fee = you get 45 dollars roughly that you can do purchase in-game items for again.

36 dollars > 29 etc etc.. so you see you get a lot more steam points doing that.
60 dollars starts of as = 6000 points > 4500 points > 3600 points > 2900 points etc until you run out.
add it all together and you see how much you actually made just by doing that.

estimated 25000-30000 steam points from spending 60 dollars this way.
to get that same amount you would have to buy 250-300 dollars worth of games (4-5x AAA games)

EDIT: missed a 0 because i was tired i guess. it is 25000-30000 and not 2500-3000 points.

Steam Points are always going to be 1 cent per point regardless of how you obtain them.
Snapjak Jan 12, 2021 @ 3:08am
Doesn't matter since it's always 1 point for each 1 cent spent.
Also is it 1 cent USD or 1 cent from your country's currency since I don't live in the US?

My source is the "How points work" page that states, 100 points for every $1.00 USD you spend.

Where is your source for this claim?
In the Points Ship FAQ.

Wow that's disappointing if it was limited to USD. I'm guessing the conversion works against me and I won't be getting 1 Steam Point per cent spent since my country's currency is weaker than the American Dollar. How inconsiderate of the majority of Steam's userbase.

That was one of the suggestions, that the point shop take into account user's currency rates.

Which I agree with for the most part, especially since it's all untradeable and unmarketable stuff.

Valve is a US company. What other currency should they be using?
Ok I figured out the conversion rate. Just click on "How Points Work?" and it should tell you how much Steam Points you get per **insert local currency you get** if you don't live in the US.

guess you need to take back the "inconsiderate" jab now

The same rules applying as apply to the sales themselves.
Surely you can see that?

I defo agree. If currencies and regions differ as we well know on here, why should someone who pays less for their games due to regional pricing be stiffed on the points shop, realtively speaking?

My point still stands. Like @Snapjak said there is little incentive for them to do that conversion thing since the Point Shop items are all cosmetics and untradable. It's not like they make money from it.

Make the items in the points shop cheaper in those countries, rather than increasing the points payout. That would prevent a lot of potential point trading/selling issues while solving the problem.

Well said.

There's no reason to NOT parallel it to the already existing system for game sales. Anything else is likely to repeat the same old mistakes of the past.
