What does "273 in Group Chat" mean?

When I went to the top-level discussions of a semi-popular game, the text near the top of the page reads:

3,490 In-Game | 273 in Group Chat | Follow | View Stats
2 Friends who play

The "Group Chat" link is clickable, it activates some Javascript I think and the cursor blinks a bit sometimes, but that's it.

What is that link supposed to do?

Is there a definitive chat group for each game? Or is it reporting some groups associated with the game and made by other means?

How do I get the link to do whatever it's supposed to do and/or join in whatever Chat it's refering to.

I'm currently running Windows 8.1 and Steam client seems to mostly otherwise work for the most part.

It is indeed a link to a chat, about that game, that exists I believe for literally every game.

Windows 8 of any variety is ... a poor choice, and likely why you're having trouble with this.

It opens a chat in your steam client, on friends/chat expand the bottom left and you're in a group chat.

Windows 8.1 reached mainstream end of life 2 years ago, you should upgrade to 10.

It is indeed a link to a chat, about that game, that exists I believe for literally every game.

Does anyone know how to navigate to the games chats if/when that link doesn't work?

You need to own the game. Also it is a choice to be on Windows 10 and you should be there because Windows 8.1 is not as secure.

I honestly hate to pick on someone who's trying to help, but I really don't want to read this stuff anymore. I mean, if I were walked around at night, in the worst part of Nigeria, unannounced, with nothing but a batching suit, waiving $25,000 of gold bullion above my head, drunk shouting: "Look it's $25,000 of Gold Bullion and I have no weapon and am unescorted," it may or may not be as secure as doing that in a bad neighborhood in France, and it might be a little more safe, or less safe, to that in worst part of Newark, New Jersey, here in good old U.S. of A, but let's face, doing that in any of those places isn't particularly secure, just as NO VERSION of Microsoft Windows is secure. Nonetheless, the "advice" isn't all that useful because nobody has hinted at how to access the groups in 8.1. If Steam had those working on XP, and hadn't intentionally forced a broken update onto XP like they did, it probably would have stayed working (again, if it ever worked on XP) because XP isn't./wasn't getting updated, and anything that worked stayed that way (until, again, someone like Steam pushes a broken copy onto it.)

As far as the chat not working, as long as they keep updating these "OS's" they're going to keep breaking stuff. But again, it would be nice if there was a work around.

We know they say "if it's not broke, don't fix it." In this case, 8.1 is broke, but so 10, and every other MS Windows, so I prefer to stick with the broke I know than the broke I installed over when Windows 10 died and we only had a full backup of the 8.1 that used to be on the machine. Until something I care about enough is broken to switch, in which case, I'm sure there will be a bunch of other stuff broken.

Since the community isn't helping, I might dare putting in a support ticket. Some chance I'll share what happens, but maybe I won't.

Nonetheless, advice on how to access those Chats in 8.1 here would still be appreciated.

(And, again, sorry for the rant. You're suffering through MS Windows #X.xx as well, it just that I'm not going to pretend to like it, and/or herd-mentality enough to accept it.)

Click on "Follow" to the right of that link before trying to join the group chat.
