Controllers and stuttering issues with some games.
Until recently I have never had any issues playing games in steam with a controller but recently I have had some games severely stutter during play when I plug a controller in, but run perfectly fine once I unplug it.

The first game that the issues happened with was "Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning" and looking into the stuttering issue it just seemed like a problem with the game and so I moved on until it was patched.

After the above I played Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice with no issues.

Today though I tried to play Yakuza 0 and had the same stuttering issues that seems to only happen when I have a controller plugged in. I thought it was just my DS4 causing it but when I tried 8-bitDo's SN30 pro+(in various input modes) and a wired Xbox 360 controller, I realized it did not seem to matter what controller it was because they all did it.

I tried to look up all sort of tweaks to the game, steam and my computer that I could find but the best I could do was get Yakuza 0 to work fine for about a minute at a time before it stutters again.

I tried a couple other games I had not played yet to see what would happen and it seems Soulcalibur VI does it as well but I had no issues with Resident evil 2(remake).

I have no idea what is causing this but it is driving me nuts. Does anyone have any clue what I could possbily try?

Here is an example of the stuttering in Yakuza 0: https://streamable.com/h3psn2

Tried these on my GFs computer which is a ryzen 2600 with and AMD HD 6800. All 3 games run perfectly with the same controllers.

Is this a driver issue? Is my CPU/mobo/ram dying?

Definitely not hardware since 1) It's not all games and 2) Changing anything on the hardware side has no effect.

I did try a manual re-install of anything I could think of but nothing worked.

As I stated in my previous post, I broke my computer trying to fix this to the point that I had to run a windows reset.

I don't know what was the exact casue but after the windows reset everything seems to be fine now.

Something else of note, before the reset, whenever I had device manager open it would constantly refresh for some unknown reason and I could never figure out the casue and it has been that way for years. The windows reset has also fixed that.

So the issue was somewhere in the software of my PC.
They're probably related. I would guess that it was to do with the USB drivers, and under task manager it would keep trying to disconnect and reconnect causing both the issues you have.

Anyway, glad you fixed it.

I've had issues like yours in some games. Don't know if this will work for you since I don't have those games, but try right-clicking over a game that's giving you problems in your library. Then go to Properties and to the Controller section. Try different settings in there such as "Forced Off" and see if that clears up those stuttering issues. If I recall, there was a fairly recent roll out of control schemes that might be gumming up some things here and there. Hopefully that'll resolve those issues you're encountering. Good luck!
So far no setting changes in steam, the games, or nvidia control panel have made any difference. Un-install and re-install have not helped either.
Try updating the drivers for your controllers, and disable Big Picture Mode for Steam.
No updates to be had and never use big picture mode. I did something very stupid and have to do a windows full reset. So I guess we will see what happens after that.
I've seen this before and it can be caused by a number of things.

I'd say the prime suspect is a worn or crappy USB port. They're of terrible desing and it's SO easy to have the slightest bit of movement cause it to quickly disconnect and reconnect casuing the dropouts you experience.

Of course the way to fix this is either to use a different port, or use a hub and try to tether the end that connects to the PC with something like some gaffer tape to mitigate that movement. If the problem's with the plug on the controller, you might be ablle to get a pair of plier and CAREFULLY crush the surrounding part of the USB plug slightly so that it mates much more tightly (of course i don't mean FULLY crush).

Other than that, it might be that your USB drivers are playing up, or corrupted. In which case, removing and resintalling may be the way forward.

Yes, it was quite the fun experience learning about SSD TRIM along the way and kicking myself for not having backups of stuff.

Ah yes, losing backups is a mistake you QUICKLY learn from.

I used to test out Action Replay discs for the PS2 back in the daym, and I had a weird fault on memory cards that would apparently randomly corrupt the cards, so I lost all progress on games.

Took me a while to work out it was something in the Action Replay code messing up the memory cards. Only happened if you did a certain procedure.

Never made that mistake again. All my saves are backed up TWICE, grandfather, father, and son.
Glad it was sorted out even if the exact cause still remained a mystery. On a separate note, I should probably make backups of important things... Feels a little ominous that C.Frog recalled that story for us since I just talked about the PS2 with someone immediately prior to catching up on the comments of this thread. Lol. Anyway, y'all be safe and happy gaming guys! :bvammobot:

Yeah, I'm old and wobbly and I tend to rattle off anecdotes about stuff.
I'm glad it helps.
I'm in the same boat. All of a sudden, some games have started stuttering when I use the Steam Controller. For example, I play this simple game "Riverbond" with my kid and I figured out with it that it stutters when I _use_ the Steam Controller. It's a multiplayer game, so I set up three PS3 controllers and the Steam Controller and as soon as I moved or used a button on the Steam Controller, it would stutter for the next few seconds, but if I used only the other controllers, everything was fine!

I'm still trying to figure out what's going on. It only started maybe a week or two ago.
muito bom, recomendo.

This is more of a long shot, but make sure whatever you're using to connect the controller or dongle to USB port, make sure it's snug and doesn't move at all.

USB connections are notoriously dreadful and break easily, or wear. This means you can often have a wobbly connection that doesn't quite make a solid connection and can end up connecting then disconnecting many times a second, which can cause issues like this.
