Cyberpunk local library sharing, cloud saves overwrite other profile's saves
I'm sharing a computer with my partner, we each have a user account on that computer, each with their own steam account, but I am sharing my library locally (using the library sharing feature that comes with Steam) so she can also play my games. I own Cyberpunk, we both play it. Never was an issue before.
Yesterday she spent 11 hours in Cyberpunk 2077, today I played a bit. Now she wanted to play again, but her save games are gone. Wiped. And replaced by my saves. On her steam profile, on her windows account.
I noticed that once she starts the game steam automatically downloads my saves, so we both disabled the cloud sync now so steam doesn't overwrite saves without asking. It's a workaround, but please note that 11 hours wasted makes us (especially her) pretty sad and I'd be happy if someone can resolve this issue. Don't want anyone have this happen to them 100 hours in. Also I like cloud saves, but CP2077 doesn't seem to care who the account belongs to...

Update: disabling cloud saves does not solve the problem. Whenever I do anything on my profile, her saves get overwritten. In her profile. And for some reason I start to believe even if she bought the game for herself this issue could persist. Do we need a second gaming PC now? How can we both play the game? I don't even know if this is a Steam or Cyberpunk issue.

Update #2: Figured out you can start the game without steam thanks to the absence of DRM (just run the cyberpunk.exe in the game's bin folder). This solved the issue (sadly no achievements for one of us, but at least we can now both enjoy the game), will keep cloud saves turned off nevertheless.

My understanding is that Cyberpunk 2077 does not support Family Share. Sharing of a Steam account is against the SSA.

Saves are stored locally, then uploaded to the cloud. As saves are the same, then yes, it will upload the same saves to the cloud.

Saves are not split between Windows accounts.

As you save in Cyberpunk, it starts overwriting saves (from what I have noticed). The first save I made is long gone and I am on number 22, so it starts automatically deleting them after a point.

It does now after it was released. It wasn't before release.

Exclude from game library sharing (exfgls) Yes

So they changed it on release. Got it, thanks!

The rest of what I said should still hold though.

I think that is automatic for games that are not released.

Yes the issue is that saves for different Windows users are stored in different folders. (%userprofile%\Saved Games). They are split between Windows users. Steam just doesn't seem to understand that.
That's the reason why we use our own individual accounts on this computer, so we don't mess with each other's game progress. But Steam for some reason does that in this particular case. Again, if running the game without Steam, it all works as intended. If Steam is used, even with Cloud Save turned off, it overwrites existing saves.

We've been using this feature for like forever, never was an issue, each has their own settings and savegames as if the games were theirs. We didn't play Cyberpunk before it was released, we're just trying to use a normal feature of Steam that's intended for families sharing one computer to not have to buy the game several times.

It runs without steam?
Then thats a solution. Or even add the exe as non steam game if that works, so the overlay ect is there.

You can backup the savegame manually, no need for the cloud then.

Not a perfect solution since she won't get achievements this way, but yes it works. Thanks anyway

My girlfriend and I are having the same problem. Would using steam in offline mode when one us played work in the same way? thanks for this solution. off to learn how to find its bin folder.

You don't have to go offline, 2077 doesn't require Steam to be even running. But if you want achievement/time tracking then yes the one that owns the game going offline should work.

\Cyberpunk 2077\bin\x64\Cyberpunk2077.exe
Though there's a shortcut in the main folder, at least for my (GOG) version.

running the .exe file isnt working for me. our saves are still getting mixed up and switched. do we have to start new games or delete our olds saves or something?

Yes, you'll have to look through both your save files (C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077) and move them back into the appropriate user's folder. Or (if that proves to be too much of a hassle) delete them and start a new game.
In our case, my saves overwrote hers, but her saves later appeared in my saves folder, so we were able to recover her 11 hours of gameplay.

The saves are what they are right now, needs manual fixing (luckily the metadata.9.json files are readable with a regular editor that say which lifepath that save is from and since we chose different ones it was easy to recognize which belonged to who), but if you continue playing they shouldn't overwrite anymore... Right?

Run separate user accounts. Pretty much every single game nowadays keep their saves local to the user profile. Meaning if you got separate user accounts (and thus profiles), your saves won't collide.

That's a generally good idea anyway. Me & my GF got separate browsing histories (obviously), separate email and so on. To manage all this, separate user accounts are the way to go.

Hi, I'm having the same problem... I have just opened a ticket on Cyberpunk Support and I will be waiting since they answer because everytime me or my BF plays it is a mess and we do not enjoy playing anymore.
Anyone got a solution or we'll just have to run the game with the .exe file ?
