Copy Cyberpunk 2077 to external SSD
I am trying to transfer Cyberpunk to an external SSD to avoid downloading the game twice. Since the game has not been released yet the installation is not complete, the common folder for the game is empty.

Can someone please advise if the files are hidden somewhere, or do I need to wait for the installation to finish in order to transfer the files? Which would mean waiting until Thursday.

You will most likely need to wait. You could probably do it manually, but I wouldn't tempt fate.
D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Cyberpunk 2077

The Cyberpunk folder is all I will need to copy over correct?
Once steam recognizes it on a new computer it should do a quick update and recognize all the files?
I just tried and it doesn't seem like you can. You honestly may have to wait until the game actually releases to move it.

Edit: Once it does, you can easily set up a second install folder on your SSD and then move the files like that.

You don't have to download it twice. Just wait for it to finish being installed, then use the "move install folder" feature from the properties menu after right clicking on the game in your library. That is how you can allow Steam to move the game correctly.

If you do things manually, you also have to move the .acf file in the steamapps folder for the game, or this will become a huge mess.

So I would not suggest that and I would not suggest trying to move anything while a game is downloading.
1) You cannot copy pre-reelased content as its encrypted per user so you're bascially wasting your time

2) Once the game is released, you should instead use the steam Backup/Restore functionality instead
preloaded games don't actually install to their steamapps\common\folder until they've been released. right now there should be a number of .csd files in your steamapps\depotcache folder awaiting the encryption key from Steam to finish the extraction and installation.

I see where you can right click and move an installation to a new hard drive after creating the destination point there.

I don't want to actually move Cyberpunk though, simply copy it to the new drive.

it seems you can only do that *if* you managed to update the launch patch for Cyberpunk 2077 and it's actually ready to "PLAY" on your computer.

Apparently if it still wants to update you cannot copy any files and use them on another computer.

True! if you pre-ordered it and have it pre-loaded, you need to LAUNCH the game BEFORE copying the files to other computers. This will automatically decrypt the files (by the original downloader) so the other computer can launch the game without downloading 60gb again

Again as I said

Use the Steam Backup/Restore function
