Anyone know how to revert steam to the old UI?
I really cannot get used to the new interface. I had a heart attack in November and haven't been on my PC for a while. There was a way to revert it back but I cannot find out how all this time later.

"Getting used to the new UI?" Heck no. Not without some help.

I've put out a set of Tweaks to the Steam Library and made an app to apply them:

I really do want the old UI back. I just hate this one. I am using Playnite now but it would be nice to use Steam again.
You're most assuredly not using Playnite (or at least not as a replacement for Steam), it is just a graphical shell. You have Steam running in the background satisfying DRM and other things (i.e. achievements, cloud, screenshots).

If you want interface consistency then I would suggest you continue using Playnite because it unifies things across different stores. You should not be rolling-back Steam client version because the client is more than a UI and games require features that don't exist in older versions.

Yes, Steam is still running in the background but my front end is Playnite, its actually really useful as I have games over lots of launchers so I can see whats installed everywhere without having to add games to steam and then add the images etc.

There are some better features but for my use case I want to be able to see my installed game library first and at a scale that suits my needs. I don't think taking features away is progress.
How is that an issue with the new UI? You can set it to show installed games just like the old UI.

Merely curious, I won't argue that the UI needs some love to make it more practical.

Not recommended since the first games already dont work anymore with the old UI.
For example Borderlands 3 will not work without the new UI.
There will just be more and more of those.
Clinging to a outdated UI that does not get any updates anymore is foolish. ^YES

Change is hard for some people, but in time they do come around and accept those changes.

When steam was first released, it was really hated. But gamers didn't really have the choice if they wanted to continue to play counter strike. Overtime gamers just came to accept steam as part of PC gaming, same as microtransactions are part of today's gaming.

Change is the nature of all things.

I get that you don't like it, but often there's a reason for such change. The fact that such reason doesn't necessarily apply to you personally doesn't matter.

SO the best advice is to get used to it, because not only will you end up being left further and further behind as more features going on changing, while you're hanging onto the old, but it will be a dimishing circle of functionality as more and more things break for you.
.

Very enlightning, yet ignoring that it is not completely about liking it based on looks, but based on optimization and efficiency!

It eats a lot of PC resources compared to the previous UI and has a spaghetti-like pattern instead of a simple efficient one.

That was just a copy/paste of Ogami's first reply by someone who CAN'T READ A BADGE.

Well, he added " ^YES" to it so i give him the benefit of the doubt that he just did not know how to quote another post.

Well for starters, using Playnite or GOG Galaxy I can see my entire list of installed games by adjusting the zoom level, I used to be able to do this in Steam, I can no longer do this. Taking a feature away is not progress.

Secondly, I could organise my games list how I wanted and find things quickly, this is just not the case with the new UI. For example, I am trying to find my benchmarking software, I cannot remember what it is called at the moment because I am having a brain fart so I went to sort by software instead of games and this option is gone as far as I can see.

Thirdly, there is a lot of information I really don't need at the top of my home screen taking up space that I want to use for something else. This is not progress, this is forcing change for the sake of it and I would like more customisation. Like I said, I am now using playnite but have found GOG galaxy has friend integration so I will not need to deal with the Steam interface and can just use a different front end that will let me set it up how I want.

I think people have forgotten that these things are Personal Computers. The fact we can customise them how we want is why they are still popular. Why should we have to compromise with the way this shop wants us to view our games.

I've returned to Steam after 5 years without a suitable PC, and I expected a load of changes, and that's what I got. Took about a day and I'm used to it.

I'm a grumpy old git in his fifties, and if I can do it, I strongly advise you do the same.

Of course, you can still comaplin about it, and post suggestions for improvement or returning features.

Yep, I am a miserable old sod in my 40's but I just don't find the user interface as useful. I have had to switch to Playnite. It has the same huge icons but I can see nearly all of my installed games without messing about.

My issue isn't with change, I like new things but I want the new interface to be as usable as the old. There are some better features but for my use case I want to be able to see my installed game library first and at a scale that suits my needs. I don't think taking features away is progress.

The problem with Playnite is that Steam friends isn't integrated so I have to flick between the two but at least I am able to see games from all launchers and customise the skin as I want.

I think if this interface was customisable that would be the best solution but I cannot find options to get it set up as I like. I would like to see a collection when I log into Steam instead of having to switch to it and I would like to be able to zoom out a little so I can see more games in one hit.

(It was 3D Mark!!!)

I get that, but that's not what I was saying at all.

All I mean is that if you do go the route of trying to replicate the old, it'll be harder to keep it working, that's all.

Agreed and I think thats why I will leave it as is, hope they improve it and carry on with Playnite until then.

Got to say, I recently discovered Playnite after another users usggested it. I use it for amalgamating my games from various services and it's pretty good, and tidy.

There's an "Display size for Library user interface elements" option in the Steam options to make stuff like game covers smaller.

I went to sort by software instead of games and this option is gone as far as I can see.
The drop down directly under the home button can be used to switch from seeing games only to software, tools, soundtracks, videos, or any combination of any of the above.

Best just to get over it and adjust, it is in your head.

If - from reading the posts on here - it will cause problems just accept that after a decade Steam was actually updated.

It is like people who cling on to XP as the best OS eva - give it up, move on, accept things chance and adjust them to the best approximate experience with/without mods.

I still use Office 2000 - no problems at all.

I still use Money 2006, that was the last version released - no problems.

When I can't use either any more, and I hope that never happens, I will move on.

Not sure what to as they are perfect programs and it will be sad and inconvenient, but I will.

Obviously new Office, which is inferior and probably You Need A Budget.

"Change is inevitable" is a better statement. Some will embrace it willingly while others will outright refuse. The old adage that you can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time is certainly evident from those who have spoken out about it. However, those who are against the change will need to make the choice of accepting it or walking away from it.

Steam has chosen a path for the design of the UI and going back is not an option. Like Jigsaw said, "make your choice."
