I'm not sure if this is a scam or not

A guy just dm'd me on discord saying that he accidentally reported me for illegal purchases instead of someone else and that I needed to help clear my own name because the admin wouldn't believe him.

"hey hello? sorry to disturb you can we discuss for just a minute because it is very important please? i just made a huge terrible mistake and I hope you wont get mad please cause I accidentally reported you for doing illegal purchases instead of someone else, the support said that your account will be suspended. I'm really sorry I tried to tell him that it was a mistake profile id but he wont listen to me I'm not joking on steam he said if you will not help to explain to him your account will be permanently suspended on steam that's why I contacted you I'm really sorry I didn't mean to report you bro can you please help me on explaining to him? I told the support that you are innocent but he is not listening to me the problem is he needs to add him to clarify the issue or else you will take the ban."

This is the message I received, followed by a link to my steam account profile and the profile of someone else. I haven't clicked on either and I wanted to know how legit this could possibly be.

It is a scam, yes.

The scammer basically sends you the link to a real employee Steam account to lure you in further. Ignore that part of the scammers post.

The fake admin believed his false report, but does not believe him anything else.

Keep in mind that often in these scams, the "friend" that was involved in the "accidental report" often has already had their account hijacked, and the scammer is using that to appear more real.

Plus the evidence portion of the scam is outside of Valve's jurisdiction so the scammers don't need to worry about things showing up in chat logs on this platform. They can reach so many people this way to without going through the rigmarole of having to add the victim as a friend and then trying to bait them with a user account along the way. Much easier place to impersonate on Discord.
