Steam making chrome freeze. Windows 10
About a week ago chrome started freezing when opening it.
I tried reinstalling chrome among other things and ended up resetting the os.
When the problem happened again I started uninstalling the few things I had installed since the OS reset and found that steam was the cause.
Any ideas what I can try to fix it?

Try a different browser to see if the issue still persists - Edge, Vivaldi etc.

If another browser works then it becomes a chrome issue not a Steam issue.

I'm not sure if that's actually the issue, Steam shouldn't be causing Google Chrome (or another browser / app) to freeze, are you sure it's caused by Steam?

Oh it absolutely can because Steam works on Chrome's framework.

At first, before I reset the OS, it did the same thing with both Chrome and Edge (hard freeze on startup that needs a restart to end the task). After the reset it only happens to Chrome.

Last night I reinstalled Steam with no games installed and chrome worked. I added a few games and it froze again. Long story short, ATM it's looking like the game "Stick Fight" is the culprit. When I found that with it uninstalled Chrome worked I remembered that the issue started right around the time I bought the game.

Any thoughts?

Well, I can't give you any thoughts as to rememdy the problem as you seem to have done that.

However, it might be worthwhile doing the following - both dropping a message to the devs via their email (or whatever method they use for contact) and on the forums here. Then contact support too. Chances are if you're having it, others might too, and it can help everyone.

Thanks man. I posted in the game's forum. We'll see how it goes.

Do note though - the forums here are likely only going to be someone the publishers appoint and may not be the best way. Just await and see if you get any response or a decent one.

I always find with issues like this, going as close to the horse's mouth is best. So, personally I would try to find their contact details.

Appreciate the help bro. I just figured out that it's one of my gamepads doing it (new cheapo one that I got about when I got the game lol).
Can't believe I went down this rabbit hole and even reset my os without trying unplugging usb devices first. Idiot lol.

Don't beat yourself up. USB causing freezes is one of those things that you'd normally never work out in a month of Sundays.

Glad you sorted it as that particular problem I've had myself and it is a right pain.

One last question - are you sure it's the controller and not the USB socket or hub itself? Might not be relevant to you, but if you still use that port it might be worth checking.

Yeah I tried a few different ports and also tried installing the driver from the controllers manufacturers site, still get the issue. I contacted their support. we'll see what they say.
