sharp ping spikes whenever I play any online steam game?
okay so i've been having this problem for a month now and i'm unsure how to fix it nor what's causing it.
just last month i've never had this issue...I cant exactly remember when it initially started but as far as I know i've been having this for about a month now...
basically everytime I play any online steam game (Risk of Rain 2, Remnant from the ashes, Gwent) my ping would start behaving abnormally. random sharp lag spikes starts to appear at a random pace. my ms(ping) goes from 15-30 and will start to suddenly jump immediately to 200-500+ms at a random pace.. but as soon as I close the game, ping goes back to constant 1-5ms....I also tried other games (league of legends) and my ping doesnt do these random sudden lag spikes. looks like only specifically steam games
I tried some stuff that I was hoping to fix the problem:
1. restart wifi
2.Re-install steam
3. verify game files
4. Re-install the games

but non of them worked.
is anyone else having this weird experience? any suggestion how I can fix this?..I only started noticing this problem within the past few weeks when I starting checking my ping while playing and not playing..I thought it was just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ net considering I live in
AU lmao...but the net seems fine.. it seems like the problem only persist specifically on steam's online games

Edit: I also tested other steam games that I have that has some sort of online features (Ori and the Will of the Wisp, Satisfactory, Hitman 2) and they all cause the same problem...but for single player games that doesnt have any online feature (Hades, Witcher 3) my ping status seems fine and is never having these random abrupt lag spikes

Check for bad packets or CRC error , talk with own ISP also.

i'm no expert but whats bad packets and CRC error and how do I check it?

also i dont think its the ISP, as I said the lag spikes only happens when I open a steam game that has online/multiplayer feature. but as soon as I close the game, ping immediately goes back to normal (constant 1-5ms)

Things you can give a try.
- Ensure you're not using weird 3rd party software that hooks into things, or causing connections issues.

- Modem / Router need a reboot.

- If you did anything in the Modem / Router settings, check your work to ensure you're not blocking things.

- If connecting to private VPN / DNS networks, they might be causing you this problem. Either set back to default, or use open DNS network like google, or cloud flare.

- Can try flushing your network, open command promt as admin, and give this a try.
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=O4qOzFngjys

If not working still try these in order, then restart, and test.
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

- If you're hardware suddenly has spike in usage, example like HDD with bad / slow reads when needed could cause sync issue where get a spike in connection, if game not able to adjust back correctly may need to restart app / game, or rejoin session to correct the issue.
Me for Bani whether not for what I have never used cheats in my life what should I do???:steamsad:

For starters, don't hijack someone else discussion, and go to the VAC sub forum.

I have this same issue for last 2 months. Rocket league, Apex Legends and now Hell let loose. All them games online long and sharp lag spikes for no reason. Non steam games work fine. Let me know if you solve the issue.

so the youtube video that @dDr.Shadowds linked somehow 'fixed' the problem...tho i'm not sure yet since its only been one day....tho after doing that youtube tutorial, the frequency of the spikes significantly reduced but the spikes still comes and go just not as frequent as before....

Hmm interesting, i have tried different networks and still get same issue. So odd. Would love to get a full fix but so little online about what might be the issue

Maybe ppl should Talk with own ISP, only ISP can clear you into them, so that problem is not between you and ISP , what goes on from a ISP in to steam is another matter.

ps.
your ISP is actual your best choise then so many other between isp and into steam and back from steam to isp and then you. ( you have ownISP and Steamsupport and maybe that game server game you can contact, rest is out of your hands, and you are not custommer at ISP partner . if you have more jumps you go through.

Yup, I'd echo what Iceira's said here - It would be a good idea to talk to your ISP.

Not only will they will be able to explain some of the things to you and how it affects you, but they can see what's happening too.

Assuming you have decent ISPs, that is.
