Got any ideas why I can't update my payment method?
Nothing I do will let me enter new information for the card. I can't do anything, purchase from the store or add funds.

Everything just goes back to the same page (account details) when I click on it. The page that tells me I need to update it, then it won't let me.

------edit

I do not need to enter a new card, just update the details. The number is the same, just expired. I do NOT want or need to deal with the cool-down if I delete the number, just to re-enter it.

I just tried it myself and it goes back to the account details page.

Sounds like server issues. I found other sites are having similar issues right now.

Possibly using AWS for that specific feature of Steam then?

I can sure understand why everyone gets so frustrated with support.

Waited 19 hours for a reply that does nothing more than tell me how to change my account details, which CAN NOT BE DONE as per my support ticket....

Just. Wow.

Eventually the problem usually gets fixed/forwarded to the right team though... Usually only takes a max of 4 days of communication for me. Steam Support is at least better than some other companies non-existent support.

By the time they figure it out, I won’t be interested anymore.

Probably ever...

You need to READ the thread. I can NOT update my credit card information to use on the store.

You should apply for a job with support, you'd fit right in...

Sounds like you're having the same issue I had when my card expired. Nothing changed but the expiration and security code. I had to remove the "old" card completely and then re-add it as "new". There was no way that I could find to just update the information.

If that's the case, I'll just stop buying on Steam... This whole interface is becoming quite the joke.

I've had this before during prime sale period time.

I suppose it's not too different from the same other congestion problems, where you can click on a game to view it's page and it bombs back to the main store page.

The only thing that I can suggest in these instances is to avoid stuff like this until as late as you possibly can.

As we're still in lockdown for a lot of countries, and it's winter I bet this is a pretty big level of demand.

Obviously, things like payments or anything bank related will be the first to show cracks under congestion as that involves other connections or verification.

You should see the festival I work for - Glastonbury - every time their tickets go on sale. So many people tearing their hair out becaseu the same thing happens.

Problem is, I hadn't made any purchases in a few months and had no idea my cc was out of date until it told me and won't let me do anything with it. Seriously, wtf is the sense of that?

To be fair this is probably not Valve's fault, as I've had this very issue myself on other places.

Because I have to shop for everything online, being housebound and all that, I've come across this a few times. And that's why I believe it to be ageneral banking issue or something along those lines.

I've had it even where it won't let me enter the new card details because it says that it's the same card number as the old one, and won't let me delete the old one.
Also had it just like this - where it doesn't tell you your card is out of date.

I suspect there's some attention needed from whoever is responsible for this bit of banking software. I can't imagine it's there for security purposes.

But anyway, see how you get on much later. As it's the weekend, I rather guess it's a busy thing.

It's not payment processing issue. It's how Steam is storing the credit card information. If you want to change something about a specifically stored credit card, like the expiration date, you can't. You have to delete and re-enter it as brand new.

It won’t matter

By the time they figure this out, it’s not going to matter

Maybe if they had actually paid attention to my support ticket, it might have been in process

Once a whole day has passed, I’m done screwing around with this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Well, if it is that's fair enough.

All I'm saying is they are not unique in this. I've had it so many times on so many other places. Bloody infuriating.

That's why I wondered if it was some part of the banking software or the service they buy in (similar to how they buy in postcode and address data to compare against - I won't bore you with escapades over that one in Britain).

It is bloody stupid though nonetheless and damned infuriating.

The worst exmaple I had like this was on PSN once, in the PS3 era. New card, same number, just obviously the old one out dated. Just was left in a Catch-22 where I couldn't delete the old card unless there was at least one payment method on there (and that's all I had), and I couldn't update the old one because the number was the same as the old one.

In that case though, it may have been somehting their end as I ended up going round it by using PSN through a web browser.
