Is it safe to click Yes to download Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Runtime?
I have quite a few games I can not play with an error box popping up and one that does not pop an error, but you cannot get out of their game launcher and no way to by pass it and I was informed this was the cause-

[Error

The following component(s) are required to run this program:
Microsoft Visial C++ 2015 Runtime

Would you like to install them now?]

Why is it not already in the game package? Most games do not need this apparently. Also if I click Yes, where is it going to take me? To the official Microsoft page or a third party website of questionable origins? Any time I click on a third party link it warns me I am leaving Steam. So is Steam just going to load it onto my device for me or it takes me to a third party website, most likely warning me not to do so in the process? Thank you.

C++ is a safe download and will not hurt your pc. The download comes from Microsoft.

Yup, it's absolutely fine and normal.

As to why does it need to download them, it's to do with age.

When those older games were released (and I bet they ARE ALL older games aren't they?) those packages were likely already on the then-current versions of Windows.

But time moves on and they're not there now, so you need to install them, that's all.

Thank you. I just worry since I do not have a disk. I think it is best to purchase download versions and always have access to them from the original websites, like Microsoft or Xbox.

So I click on the link and I am brought to the Microsoft website or Steam just downloads it for me and puts it in the right spot? If I am transported to the Microsoft store, is Steam going to warn me of the dangers of going to third party sites like it normally does?

Some are. *cough* One is the port of Shenmue 1&2. *cough* Someone mentioned that because the launcher will not allow me to proceed further, even though it does not outright tell me the problem, that is the problem.

Postal Redux came out it 2016 and Perfect Vermin came out this month actually. Ultimate Doom lets me get to the skill level screen, but then the game freezes. I can get around that by playing through the Shrine (mod?). And there are a few other games that are doing it, but most did not have this problem until some what recently. It seems it is becoming more and more common.

Much like Steam or a game asking me permission to allow them further access to my PC, which I am weary of as well. Some let me continue to play, even if I click on the X. Now a lot more are beginning to ask for that permission and not all will allow me to go any further if I click X. It just seems awkward that it asks for more control than anyone should be willing to give. The game is already downloaded, what more does it need access to and why do some games still play without giving such access, while others do not?

Ah well in those cases, that's a problem endemic to YOUR PC. You simply don't have th required files or something is inhibiting them,, or any of a myriad load of potential problems.

Shenmue 1 and 2 should run perfectly fine. I only ran it last week, and that issue did not arise for me. So it CANNOT be a problem their end.

But the reason I mentioned older games is because that is endemic of them. But it equally applies to ANY game. Sometimes you can just be missing a file or it's different slightly or corrupt and so on.

And no developer can EVER account for the gaxillions of possible PC dconfigurations there are.

So yes, it's perfectly safe to download from places like Microsft- they're not going to be comprmoised for the simple reason that if they were you'd be hearing about it in the news INSTANTLY.

So Epic made Microsoft Visual C++ 2015? Because when I click Yes on Steam, a launcher for Unreal 4 pops up... o_O (UE4 Prerequisites (x64)) With U4 and Epic Games logo on the side...

No, that doesn't mean they made it. They're just responsible for the package.

These things are common so I don't know what you're worrying about.

It's often just some library or add on that the game requires that isn't normally used. You often get this with DirectX too. Each game needs their own little wrapper for DirectX (if I understand it correctly), but there's been a long held myht on here that it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ coding when every game downloads the SAME DirectX.

It's not - they're all different, it's just not fully labelled, so people assume and get the wrong end of the stick.

I just wasn't expecting Epic to be part of it.

That's fair enough. It's not they're part of it, in that they didn't develop it.

I downloaded the Visual C++ 2015 from the main website and games play now. But upon playing them, my firewall is blocking parts of the game and asking if I want to allow these features. Well no, if it was important enough to block to begin with, why would I allow them now? The games (those I have tried so far) play, so not sure what or why certain parts are being blocked to begin with. And it seems only those that I had to download the Visual C++ 2015 to even play to begin with, are the ones my firewall is warning me of... ._.

If game has online features that be why, otherwise it shouldn't be asking for online access really unless it has 3rd party DRM. But is this is just a single player game, then it's fine to leave it ports blocked.

can you please stop reason, with or what you think you know about it. if you notice no one want to comment on it.

its simple if you dont have it installed then a game devs has it as requirement , you cant start the game. and it dont help if you have it installed already in the OS or steam has added it with the steam conmonwork Redistributalble files, so all you do is install a game that run a script that auto launch it , that what you do. i cant know what happend with 2015, sounds like the famouse corrupted VC++ that happend to many of us.

The following component(s) are required to run this program:
Microsoft Visial C++ 2015 Runtime

that app already told, get it fixed or byebye,
sure we get it , but game requirements is there for a reason, its game devs that are in controll of this. and in the old days make sense use thirdpart software.

fair enough if you dont know this, but your computer will not work with no thirdpart device and its software. a browser will still be in the stone age without other thirdpart software, i can go even further with other WWW you can kiss last 20 years goodbye. without thirdpart aoftware.

ask any programmer it will take decades without other software if they have to do it from scrates.

im not here to educate you, but the way you think it is dont add up here.

within next decade , you will meet more people that dont care or not my problem or have to learn or know anything, most tech people will leave, and it will be seen as user own problem.
and no one will help any anymore.

as i said you have all the informations you need already

dont expect any help in the future or even reply.
this is not only for you, this is for all steam user that read this post.
