Can I play Steam Games with a Controller?

To be more specific, I got a Steelseries Nimbus controller, which is compatible on PC. So my question, can I play Steam games, like CS-GO, TF2, etc, with a Steelseries Nimbus controller or just any controller like a PS4 or XBOX?

As long as it supports XInput it will work natively. Otherwise you will need to use SteamInput as a wrapper (easier than it sounds).
Of course the game needs to support controllers in the first place.

Considering TF2 and CS:GO, both have controller support, but TF2 may not support a controller in every menu.
I strongly recommend using a mouse and keyboard in those games as a controller will give you a severe handicap against other players.

Just to add to what Cathulhu says (and correctly), here's a bit more info.

If it's a PC compatible controller like that you should be fine and good to go for most of the games (you can check under the game's info in your library or on the store page as to how much or what controller support it has).

Ideally, for Windows 10, an Xbox One controller (or the newer ones) are a kind of default. If you have one you shoudn't have any worries. I'm not familiar with the Steelseries on you specify, but if it's a reasonably modern controller, then again you shouldn't have any issues.

If it's any use to you, you can get on with a lot of controllers on Steam these days. I switch between Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3, PS2 even. Depends what I've got my hands on at the time.

Though with the Sony controllers (and even Nintendo controllers) sometimes you can find for no good reason a game just won't work or work properly with them. Under those circumstances I've only really found Joy2Key to be a good workaround.

So just a heads up for the future.
