You mean the option that is prominently displayed in your account preference settings?
THIS option?
http://prntscr.com/uzf52e
I can read your post without hearts just fine because i turned the filter off.
Maybe next time before going on a rant, at least LOOK if the thing you want is already implemented.
More importantly you are NOT the only one using the forums.
Swearing is not a requirement just a way to be edgy.
You must go to Starbucks and ask for a ******* coffee.
If you had actually used the search function you may have found an answer.
Even when I want to change my Steam username to something like "D/C=u.a.b!tch" I can't use the real b-word - it changes it to those politically correct little hearts...
I don't see how a platform that sells games where you can pick up hookers in your stolen car, have ♥♥♥ with them, and kill them - feels the need to censor swear words. Seems gratuitously silly.
(And as for the 'games are age restricted, forums aren't' excuse - well that is still by design. Steam could easily add a disclaimer, a check-box that you have to accept before using the forums - you know, the same way a 12 year old can click the check-box on a game saying they're 18...)
swearing is like punctuation. its effective when used correctly. now go ♥♥♥♥ yourself
The option in account preference settings is only for chat, not for the forums, reviews etc. and I see no good reason for that.
Games are sold on the storefront. Forums are community based communication. As ushc not only are they entirely subject to different standards, but it's not at all weird. Because a storefront, whether selling ♥♥♥♥ games or not, is age regulated. You cannot access that content unless you fill the disclaimer of the age gate in.
However, on the forums there is none of that.
Plus, the clear difference here is that storefronts are items listed by companies with at least a modicum of standards and liabilities. Not so private individuals on a forum.
So I can perfectly understand why it's there.
And yes, I swear like a trooper. It's called empathy.
Exactly.
One thing I've been wondering about is if swearing is "bad" in the USA because they bleep it out, creating some sort of stigma against it?
The good thing for me is that the swearing in my main language can't really be censored or atleast not in the same way. I only use the words: "hell", "curses" and "devil". And my favorite is all together: "cursed devils hell!".
It's funny how it works when you think about it. :P
