Username changed to a random? 17-digit number
My username has been changed to a 17-digit string of numbers.

I have tried to see what has caused it but the other people mentioning it on Google had evidently been hacked and their account was telling them they would be banned - this is not the case with me.

Just cannot see why this happened (and if I should be concerned) and how to change it back.

It isn't random. It is your SteamID. That is what it defaults to, when it gets reset.

It was reset on July 8th. You can contest the removal through the link provided in the message.

The what? There weren't even 14 characters, let alone 14 words.

Go ahead and google ♥♥♥♥. I'm sure you know the meaning already though. :spacepony:

I looked it up, yeah, yeesh.

On the one hand it's possible OP didn't know and the number has different meaning to them. There's just so much stuff and so much "coded language" that it's possible for people to run into it unawares.

But on the other hand lots of closet racists and people who will feign ignorance when caught.

OP might just need to find a new number to use if it's been widely co-opted. Seems like the best explanation so far though.

Yeah I guess I don't go around googling random times with the colons and full stops removed to see if there's a hidden meaning. My mistake apparently.

Brock, thanks. I found a way to submit a ticket, just had to choose different options.

If it was removed because it is used by hate speech then there is no alternative but to choose a different name. It doesn't matter if you knew or didn't know. Your not penalized for it, unless you constantly do it.

Okay, evidently I'm just an old guy out of the loop (not the first time). So because other people will associate it with . . . that, Steam doesn't care what it means to me? I guess I understand that in the cancel culture mentality today.

No, steam doesn't care what it means to you, just like if someone had the N word as their name, they can't keep it because it "means" something to them. Everyone is treated equally, and if words or numbers are offensive everyone is treated equally.

It's a username......choose a different one.

So can I change it to something else (and I'll be sure to google any numbers first) or am I stuck with the 7656...
Assuming it's been the first action against your profile name, you should be able to change it after a certain amount of time has passed. I think it's only a day or so and then you should be able to change it again.

Just out of curiosity what do you expect to happen? Do you expect steam support to say, oh so that hate speech means something to you - Of course you can keep using it as your name.

I mean if they did that then anyone could have hate speech as everyone would just claim it means something special to them.

No one is trolling you. There's just a fine line to walk between how plausible they think it is that you're ignorant or playing dumb.

Having a huff about it and grumbling about it I can understand, but it also doesn't make you any more sympathetic. This situation isn't their fault, or Valve's fault. If you are ignorant about it, the only people you can be upset at are white supremacists. They kind of tend to ruin anything they get their hands on and there's enough of them that we can't just ignore and dismiss them as a society.

Unfortunately no one can tell how genuine your story is. Some of us will provide the help you seek, others will react negatively. Personally it's fairly new to me that there is a meaning behind that number, so I can sympathize with those that don't. However, I don't know you. It's possible you're telling us all of this with a SS tattoo on your neck or something.

It was alphakay♥♥♥♥ - been using that as my moniker for ages. Nothing in there referencing my real name, birthday, location, financial accounts, or anything else I can think of that might have caused an issue.

Sounds like there's no imminent cause for concern?

If it's not something I can change back myself, is there a way to contact Steam directly to find out the answer, since they did it to begin with and so reverting it would be up to them as well? I tried to find an email, helpline, etc. but was coming up short.

♥♥♥♥ is white supremacist racist code 14 is used to to refer to the 14 words creed of white supremacists (blah blah some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ i cant recall) and 88 is used to refer to HH aka ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

apparently steam is implementing a no tolerance policy for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. finally.

No one trolled you....you not liking answers given, doesn't mean someone is trolling you. Also, Steam/Valve has always had a zero tolerance policy for racism.

yeah they have but they havent always been proactive about implementing it.

i have literally dozens of screen shots of user profiles using some kind of nazi/racist bs in their avatar or profile or name and have sent each and every one to steam bc ♥♥♥♥ that ♥♥♥♥ and its taken months, years if ever for the profiles to be removed.

PR time in track, what is that?
And what is the connection to the words and the number?
