I looked it up, yeah, yeesh.
On the one hand it's possible OP didn't know and the number has different meaning to them. There's just so much stuff and so much "coded language" that it's possible for people to run into it unawares.
But on the other hand lots of closet racists and people who will feign ignorance when caught.
OP might just need to find a new number to use if it's been widely co-opted. Seems like the best explanation so far though.
Brock, thanks. I found a way to submit a ticket, just had to choose different options.

It doesn't matter if you KNOW it's racist or not.
If it was removed because it is used by hate speech then there is no alternative but to choose a different name. It doesn't matter if you knew or didn't know. Your not penalized for it, unless you constantly do it.
No, steam doesn't care what it means to you, just like if someone had the N word as their name, they can't keep it because it "means" something to them. Everyone is treated equally, and if words or numbers are offensive everyone is treated equally.
Just out of curiosity what do you expect to happen? Do you expect steam support to say, oh so that hate speech means something to you - Of course you can keep using it as your name.
I mean if they did that then anyone could have hate speech as everyone would just claim it means something special to them.
No one is trolling you. There's just a fine line to walk between how plausible they think it is that you're ignorant or playing dumb.
Having a huff about it and grumbling about it I can understand, but it also doesn't make you any more sympathetic. This situation isn't their fault, or Valve's fault. If you are ignorant about it, the only people you can be upset at are white supremacists. They kind of tend to ruin anything they get their hands on and there's enough of them that we can't just ignore and dismiss them as a society.
♥♥♥♥ is white supremacist racist code 14 is used to to refer to the 14 words creed of white supremacists (blah blah some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ i cant recall) and 88 is used to refer to HH aka ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
apparently steam is implementing a no tolerance policy for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. finally.
well i mean his name was alphakay♥♥♥♥ AK = Aryan Knights a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥) supremacist group in idaho. that combine with one four eight eight? lol kinda obvious.
yeah they have but they havent always been proactive about implementing it.
i have literally dozens of screen shots of user profiles using some kind of nazi/racist bs in their avatar or profile or name and have sent each and every one to steam bc ♥♥♥♥ that ♥♥♥♥ and its taken months, years if ever for the profiles to be removed.
And what is the connection to the words and the number?
