Username changed to a random? 17-digit number

My username has been changed to a 17-digit string of numbers.

I have tried to see what has caused it but the other people mentioning it on Google had evidently been hacked and their account was telling them they would be banned - this is not the case with me.

Just cannot see why this happened (and if I should be concerned) and how to change it back.

Generally this occurs if your name or profile violates naming rules. I can't see your history and you didn't state what your name was previously so I can only guess if that's the case.

It was alphakay♥♥♥♥ - been using that as my moniker for ages. Nothing in there referencing my real name, birthday, location, financial accounts, or anything else I can think of that might have caused an issue.

Sounds like there's no imminent cause for concern?

If it's not something I can change back myself, is there a way to contact Steam directly to find out the answer, since they did it to begin with and so reverting it would be up to them as well? I tried to find an email, helpline, etc. but was coming up short.

You're free to open a support ticket through the help section. It might be a bit of a wait though so try to be patient.

Yes, a support ticket sounds like what I'm looking for. But whenever I go to help section, all I can do is search keywords for previous posts - do I need to be doing anything in particular to see the link for a ticket? Does it matter PC/mobile? Etc.

Little tip either look up the meaning of the seemingly random numbers you see other people using before copying it or don't be dumb enough to expect one of the biggest global platforms in existence to not know what it is.

They're taking over numbers now? Started using it in accounts/profiles decades ago when I ran a PR time in Track, had no idea until today. For crying out loud.

Okay, evidently I'm just an old guy out of the loop (not the first time). So because other people will associate it with . . . that, Steam doesn't care what it means to me? I guess I understand that in the cancel culture mentality today.

So can I change it to something else (and I'll be sure to google any numbers first) or am I stuck with the 7656...

You don't make the rules...Valve does. You can change it but if you keep using racist names, Valve will simply not allow you to have a username.
