why I hate steam, a respectful discussion.

I hate steam, because there hasn't been one single time that the program was any help to me.
I was fine with CDs.
I didn't have to log into some site, with a log in that works half the time.
I didn't have to wait for a download i never to asked to be downloaded to complete so i can play my game.
I don't want to be online, and i don't want online friends.
I don't want updates, i don't want prizes and stupid events.
I just want to play my games in peace.
I don't want help organizing nor categorizing my games.
I don't want advertisements.
I don't want news.
I just want to be left alone and play my game in peace.
But i cant do that, do you know why?
Because of steam.
I have to navigate Google to find out how to have access to my own games, why?
Because of steam.
I have to fight lousy programming that hinders me, why?
Because of steam.
I have to wait days sometimes to play, not because of the game, or designers.
Do you know why i have to wait?
You guessed it, because of steam.
No one asked for steam, no one needs steam, no one wants steams permission to play a game they bought with their hard earned money.
So steam I really really REALLY HATE YOU, more than the left hates trump.
But theres hope, i chance for you to make peace.
We aren't like librals, and racists.
We are gamers. We understand eachother. So my fellow nerds who work at steam, hear my unrelenting shout.
Please get rid of some of these stupid program barriers that hinder our already irritating lives.
1. A good steam would be like a butler, always asking us permission to do ANYTHING, yet ready with the truth when we need.
2. A good steam would honor the mantras of the gaming world.
"Bros before money"
"Game before learning"
"No updating ♥♥♥♥, we'll do the updating".
3. Finally NEVER INTERFERE WITH THE HOMIES GAMING STATUS.
For some people, gaming could mean being able to quietly hide from an abusive parent for hours on end. NOT IF STEAMS UPDATING.
For some people gaming means training this worlds best US soldiers to protect our American citizens.
NOT IF STEAMS UPDATING
For some people in ww2 it was gaming that stopped the nazi's from conquering the world!!
Steam you HAVE to do better than this, and do as

Steam you decided to take up the mantle, and brings nerds of all races, creeds, and codes together.
You want to be the pioneer for the future? Then stop being a PAIN IN THE AZZ!
Seriously this needs to be WAY more user friendly, and you people are dropping the ball!!

Theres no telling what kind of crap is goi going to go down, and frankly i don't want to have to watch an update screen, after ive just decided tp end my life with nuclear destruction while playing a reminiscent run of Halo 1 and 2.
This updating crap is a thing of the past, lets place our flags and run to the future.

Steam does this to keep it's users engaged and fresh, if you take advantage you can get free games or discounts. This is out of your hands and nothing is going to change and every game launcher like epic games store or steam does this.

Yes spooky i understand but like i said, they have plenty of money to revamp this system to where it doesn't interfere with the free hours i have when not working.
My Friday night is shot because i cant play mount and blade bannerlord while greedfall finishes downloading.
Is that even reasonable?

Well it's there platform so yes they can do whatever they want on it. If downloads are that slow try to get better internet try to plan out your downloads/leave your computer on so downloads finish.

the best thing to do, and I have a friend like this who is kinda like you is to either embrace it, or to private your account and try to get third party sources to post pone updates and downloads, though I think that may be againts the rules and may get you banned if caught I dunno.

no most of us are greatful to have steam and enjoy the events, discounts, etc. Some concerns are just quality of life stuff like sometimes my wishlist will not load for some reason.

How is Greedfall getting an update preventing you from playing M&B? Even if you needed the bandwidth, you can either manually pause the update or configure Steam to not download updates when you're playing a game.

Steam client doesn't update that often. It check for an update when it loads, yes, but that doesn't mean it updates.

Upper left corner of Steam.
Steam > Settings > Downloads
Check "Allow downloads during gameplay"

You can also change this for each game in their properties.

Or, after staring the game you want to play, alt + tab out, click on "Downloads" at the bottom of the client, then resume download.

I suggest exploring the settings and seeing what you can do to tweak Steam to your liking.

You can turn off the news pop-up when launching Steam. You can set your library as the default start page, bypassing the store until you want to look at it. You can stop receiving e-mail about game going on sale. All of these are in the setting and preferences you can change.

Of course we all have problems. But Steam was literally created to keep games (specifically CS at first) updated.

You can totally mitigate downloads to specific times and specific speeds, while not gaming and even set them to not update until launched. But I don't recommend that one unless you have fast internet and can get a like 30 gig update in a few minutes.
