Steam loses connection on one pc when logging on to another
I have two PCs, one is a desktop and one is a laptop, both running windows 10. I wanted to stream from my desktop to my laptop on my local network, which has worked perfectly in the past. However, I now experience an issue in that my two PCs do not appear in each other's steam clients. I can remote desktop between the two, so there is no problem with the network in itself. My girlfriend's laptop can also see my PCs, as can my phone, using steam link.

The crux of the problem is that I cannot maintain logins on both PCs at once. When I either log out / log in, or go offline/online, it causes the other PC to lose connection, saying "no connection" at the bottom of the store page, and going into settings it says no VAC etc. I can then do the log out / log in on the other PC and force the first PC to be disconnected again. Does anybody have any experience or solution to this?

There is no solution. You can only be logged into one pc at a time by design.

I've read this response in a number of other threads. I don't think this is true since:
(1) I have been able to be logged in on two PCs precisely so I can stream between them, and
(2) I am currently logged in on one of my PCs and also my girlfriend's PC.

I don't mean to sound rude, but I think what you say is false.

Yeah forgot this was a restriction from a very long time ago. I'm old.

I can confirm that it works for me, having a PC and a laptop showing the same library and installed games ready to be streamed to each other.

Your devices were able to fully do the update, which I guess was happening today since Wednesday is patchday?

I guess Steam was restarted at least once on both devices?

Yeah, I've tried restarting steam on both, and also manually checking for client updates. Neither are on the beta updates. I've tried restarting the PCs too. I haven't tried rebooting the router, though not sure if that would make a difference, though might be worth a try. I have a feeling its more like a configuration issue where both PCs appear as the same to steam in some way, and so one gets kicked. But that's only a hunch.

I'm having the same issue.. When I open Steam on my laptop, my desktop goes "No Connection" and I can't stream games from my desktop to my laptop :\

I started having this issue very recently. Someone recommended a look at Device Manager for disabling any unnecessary adapters. For me there were some that seemed to be interfering, such as the "VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter." Unfortunately, this fix only lasted a week or 2, and now I'm having the issue again. So Idk 🥴

Create shortcut of steam.exe add -private_ip_override 192.0.0.0

In "object:" line

This will make it think it's on a different network and will allow both instances to stay online

This thread was quite old before the recent posts, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
