Terrible Steam Download Speeds - Is there an official answer?
Is there anything that can be done about download speeds? I've read through the forums - and none of the posts seem to have a straight answer from anyone.

Usually my download speeds max out at around 15MB/s (120 Mbps) - but my Gigabit internet connection speed is usually in the 880-1000 Mbps range...why am I only ever getting 1/10th of the speed?

I've tried checking files & folders.
I've tried changing the download location from (Toronto > Vancouver > NYC) - I'm in Toronto
I've verified the download settings are wide open (no filters/throttles)
I've verified I do not have any of the programs running listed in your Conflicting programs guide.

It just seems to be extremely slow. Not only is the speed slow - but the downloads go from 120Mbps for a few minutes - then to zero for a few minutes - then up to 60Mbps for a few then down to zero. what is causing this up and down in the download. Its almost like its losing connection

Try more download regions. The closest ones are not necessarily the best ones always. Try some very far away from you also...very far.

If you have a wireless connection, bypass the hardware and connection possibility and run ethernet from the computer to the modem only. Test it again, changing regions again.

Next, if still no joy, boot the computer into safe mode with networking. Now, change region here back to your normal one and start over, changing region more and more here to cover all the possibilities.

It's early Saturday morning in the US here/late Friday night (US PST) so take that into account. Many may be downloading right now at the same time, so more regions may need to be tested.

Thanks - i am hard wired to the router. I will try more regions.

It took 1 hour 20 minutes to download 15GB.

Bypass the router totally, and run to the modem only. If you have a combo unit, maybe that is what you meant. Check that unit if it is a combo, as I have seen several of those be the issue in some cases. But try the other suggestions also.

ARK is always heavily compressed. It's not stuck, it's merely unpacking the files it has already downloaded.

I do not have game downloading speed issues, but shop video downloading speed issue here.
While I on youtube or other source of streaming my DL speed is fairly fast between 10 to 25 mb/s
on steam shop its freezes almost every second (like 10% is downloaded, then freezes few secondes then another 10% ...sometimes it freezes for longer)

A bit annoying... any idea why this happens, please?
