15 day Trade hold help
i just need help me and my friend were trading and i have a trade hold for my knife. idk why that is my friend has had the same authenticater for 3 years and me it on year y is that. it only happens when he trade to me by the way.

It should say exactly why you're getting a hold. But if it's only with your friend, then your friend either removed it, or recently re-added it.

Open up a trade offer* with your friend and add add something from his inventory leaving your side blank. Do you get a message at the top of the screen indicating the trade will be held?
Remove the item from his side and add something from your inventory, do you receive a message about the trade being held?

I recommend the use of Trade Offers for testing so you have complete control of the process without inconveniencing your friend, and it can even be done when their offline.

Click the "New Trade Offer" button and select the friend

the hold only happens when i trade one of his items to me but when i trade my item to him it works fine with no hold. so just him sending me items!

sounds like your friend is fibbing about how long they've have Steam Mobile Authenticator activated :)

Or your friend thinks "email" authentication is the same thing as the mobile/cellphone thing - and so your friend has have the email authentication for 3 years and doesn't realise that doesn't get rid of the 15 day holds. Only the cellphone/mobile authenticator does.
no he has had it for at least 40 day i know that for a fact he is a friend in real life so i know that it is true

If he had it activated for 40 days then you wouldn't be getting holds.

It is that simple.
i know thats why i dont under stand what is happening!

There is no way to shorten a trade hold once it's triggered.

A trade hold is a period of time after a trade is accepted by both parties where the items traded are held by Steam before they are delivered. Trade holds last up to 15 days. If you're trading items with a friend, and you've been friends for more than 1 year, the hold is 1 day.
