Will the owner know who redeemed a code?
hey guys! quick question here. if I redeem a code, will the owner get details about my account? Like, do they get "x game was redeemed by your friend, y!"? Or just a "your game x was redeemed"?

Nope, not from a code. They only way they will know it was redeemed is if he/she tried to use it at a latter time, then all it will say is that the key has been redeemed already.

If it was a Steam Gift, then they will get a notification if it was recived by the person it was sent to.

Thanks!
EDIT: I should reload pages before typing.

If a game key is redeemed, the only one who receives a "message" is Valve: Their statistics change by the tiniest bit. They can also look up that key x is now "burned" (never to be used again, even if a game is returned). The game's publisher ("owner") might also be informed about the amount of people on Steam who have a license for the game - again via statistics - but I don't know if that is the case.

If someone out there buys a game key and gives it to you, and you redeem it, that guy will not be informed.

If someone tries to redeem a game key that is already redeemed, they will have the option to send an email to the account that redeemed it. Purpose: Sometimes, people forget about old accounts of theirs, and this email that is sent to the email account of that Steam account would help them find that old account. If the one trying to redeem the key and finding out that it was already redeemed sees that the key is in use and clicks to send that email, the other guy will receive that email, but there is no relevant information in there, and there are also no relevant functions available: The two accounts / people can not find out about each other.

If someone is giving away free game keys then it is considered polite to actually thank them and also in doing so let other users know that the key has been redeemed.

However, a word of caution, if a game key you have redeemed has been obtained through any type of fraud it may result in temporary or permanent suspension of your account or at the very least removal of the fraudulently obtained game.

Well, I did thank them, but I don't feel like showing my steam account to anyone but who I trust. It was in a private forum, and not in a fraudlent way. Just a guy feeling generous.

If you actually read the thread you necro'd, you'd see that you can't track it or know it.

That was answered six years ago. Perfectly fits your question.
