Cant download a dlc for a game
So i tried and download the dlc for borderlands 3 but steam tries to download it on a different drive and it keeps telling me that the files are unsupported. I know that i cant have BL3 on my F drive and that's why i downloaded it on D but i can't change the path of the dlc, or can i?

And I bet I know why you can't download it on your correct drive. Because it's too full, right?

Valve state that you SHOULD NOT run the steam installation drive as more than 90% full as it messes with operation and affects performance.

This is quite common a problem, as people mistakenly think "hey, this game's 50 GB big and I have over 60 GB left" or similar.

Sadly, that's not how it works. When a game downloads it needs swap file space and other workspace. So a general rule of thumb is to allow at least THREE times the total file size space.

Keeping the drive over 90% full means you get weirdness where steam tries to force installs and updates to another drive which obviously causes all sorts of issues.

So, the way to solve it is simple - delete or move stuff. Backup any stuff you want to keep.

If it's not this issue, then please do tell us.

And do you have any other drives that have Steam games on? If you do that can trip this up too if any of those are fullish too.

Also, what's the state of your Steam drive? It's all very well having 27% space, but there's two things that also apply. As I said before, HOW MUCH space that is in accordance with what you're trying to download is relevant - if you have 27% now, how much is it while it's trying to download and do all the workfile stuff? You don't know, so that's why you allow a massive amount. If that pushes it beyond this threshold it can still cause these issues.

Lastly, and probably most importantly, you could feasilbly have 40% of your hard drive available and still have issues if it's fragmented to hell.

SO when did you last defrag it?

You seem to be hedging here.

Can you please reiterate how much that drive is, AND how much is left on it?

The drive with the game on it is 465 gb and 138 is free to use (this is the drive that i want DLC to be downloaded to)

The other drive that steam is trying to download the DLC on is 1,81 tb and 1,6 tb is not in use

Well, there's a few things still to try and rather than me detailing them out, I'll link you to the thread explaining it.

So, try the change for default drive in Steam Settings > downloads.

And try to changes via Notepad (and clearing out old unifnished installation data that may exist), and if all else fails, use the MKLINK function in windows.
