Input lag? Click lag? Mouse lag? Keyboard lag?
Recently I've been getting this weird lag in a couple of games. When I play town of Salem, I get some weird lag when I click something. It takes time for the game to register that I've clicked something. I thought this might have been an issue with the game itself, but today I played VRChat with a friend for the first time.

I had the same kind of lag, as well as the POV not moving when I moved my mouse and continuing to move when I stopped moving my mouse. The same was true for my keyboard. When I pressed w to move forward, sometimes it would take a significant amount of time for the game to realize I wasn't holding it down anymore.

Does anyone know what's causing this? How I could fix this?

Is it a steam issue, or an issue on my computer?

I don't have this issue on other games, I play Minecraft just fine and origin games aren't having this issue either. My computer isn't old and it's got decent specs. I don't know what's causing this.

Im thinking the problem might be on the PC end, not steam. Perhaps network issue?

What are your specs?

What FPS are you getting in said games?

What else are you running on the computer at the same time?

Was/is anything updating while playing?
(Another game launcher, Windows, Anti-virus?)

Minecraft isn't a hard game to run, and 'Origin games' is so broad, so it could be your PC just isn't good enough to run VRChat.

I'd opt for the PC end too.

I've seen this issue before, or rather I've had it before. I got a new laptop back in February, and I bought a marble mouse to go with it, as I can't stand normal mice.

As it was bluetooth, I connected the dongle to the USB port and all seemed fine. The first game I jumped into had similar laggy behaviour when I did something on the mouse.

Turned out for me that the USB hub I was using was not connecting properly so it was trying to reconnect randomly, causing the lag.

So first question I'd ask is as it's a new PC, what peripherals have you connected to the PC that are non-standard? Like a different mouse or keyboard (yes, don't discount another peripheral causing this)?

Have you tried process of elimination? Removing or swapping out one thing to see what results you get?

That will hone you in on what's causing it.

Next try more games. See what the results are on them too. I note you mention what I assume are more indie or small dev games, so go and try something more AAA and see how it fares.

Report back.

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7400 CPU @ 3.00GHz 3.00GHz
Installed RAM: 12.0 GB
Graphics Card: nvidia geforce gtx 1050
Hard Drive: 1.33 TB free of 1.81 TB

I get a solid 60 fps in Town of Salem, no info on VRChat though, my FPS tracker doesn't work o VRChat sadly. Seeing as my laptop can't run vanilla Minecraft but can run VRChat perfectly fine, i don't think its an issue with my PC specs.
I make sure to not run anything other than my games when playing to reduce and avoid lag, so nothing was running or updating.

Also, by "origin games" i meant heavily modded Sims and Dragon Age: Inquisition

Well its not a new PC, I've had it for almost 2 years now, these issues came out of nowhere.

All i have connected to it is a Logitech wireless mouse, which is also my laptop mouse currently. I have a wired Cougar Vantar keyboard, and an old iHome speaker (this is plugged in both as a USB and in the headphone jack, as it needs to charge and is unusable otherwise. Yes, im well aware i need a new speaker XD).

I'm not really sure what you mean by process of elimination, so no, i guess i havent tried it?

I tried NieR: Automata and didn't experience any of the lag issues I had in the other games.

Ah ok. Process of elimination is a term for fault-finding when you've got tons of possible options.

In short, you replace each thing, one by one.

Say you had a weird internet issue and you couldn't see if it was something your end or your ISP or anything in the middle. You start by process of elimination. So you take ONE thing, say a LAN cable, and change it. Test.

If there's any difference, you know you're in the right ballpark. If there's no change move onto the next thing, say your router.

Obviously, it can be difficult because we don't have spares of everything, but you can often find a way to swap out or change stuff and it is THE most effective way of nailing down problems.

In your case, I'd start with grabbing another mouse, even if it's an old dodgy and see if anything changes.

You see?

I tried another mouse and unplugged my speaker and it was still happening

Cool, that's a start.

SO we can now discard the mouse and your speakers from being the issue.

What do we have left? Think about what you can change, or turn off, or alter, or beg another unit of from somebody.

The more you can do this, the easier it gets.
