If it does, you check to see when the last update was done. From my own experience, it seems to be every time you quite the game session, os sometime soon after.
although if you haven't got could save, then you're screwed. It's gone.
For the future, do as I do.
I use a whole bunch of consoles and computers - over 70 in fact - and because of that I can have save galore, and can revisit games with years in between saves.
Get GameSaveManager. It collates your saves easily for PC, meaning in just a couple of clicks it finds all your local game saves and enables easy backup. If you've got more than a handful of PC games, then it's a MUST.
How I operate it is at the end of every day or two, I make a quick backup of what I've played )plus I keep a note). At the end of the week, I take that backup and move the files across to a separate offline drive where I keep PS1, 2, and 3 games, and many more.
