Non-steam titles forcing controller to be recognized as Keyboard and Mouse
Hello everyone:

I'm running into an issue I've seen in multiple places, but can't seem to find a way to resolve.

I have a couple of applications I'm trying to run via Steam (as I play downstairs on my Home Theater PC), and I am running into the issues you see above.

They are non-Steam titles, and I have done everything in my power to get Steam to simply pass through X-Input. Instead, it is grabbing the controls and mapping them to Keyboard buttons.

I have turned Steam profiles on and off, turned Desktop config both off and to Gamepad, cycled the toggle for Non-Steam games to use both overlay, and Steam control profiles. The issue does not just persist on my Home Theater PC - I can replicate the issues sitting at my desktop, meaning this is not a Remote Play issue either.

The applications are Launchers, which I use because I prefer their Layout and UI to Steam's, and it's easier for my Wife and kids to use that for the same reason. I believe due to them being launchers - and not games - Steam is forcibly binding Mouse and Keyboard controls to my controller, despite doing everything I can to turn that "feature" off.

I am at my wit's end on this - I have changed and toggled nearly every single button I can find to press, but it will not pass X-Input forward. I'd of swapped to Parsec or Rainway by now, but neither support surround sound, which is self-defeating for my purposes. I can't use Moonlight either, as I have an AMD graphics card.

Any help you can provide will be very welcomed.

I'm combed through about everything I can see. I'm going to try reaching out directly to Valve support.

I can't help you precisely with this issue, as I've heard of similar problems before.

What I can offer you is a workaround. I use a fair number of different controllers from regular Xbox controllers to various Sony ones and even modified controllers for disability.

I have them all working fine with Steam including some non-steam games that launch through the UI. Any of the games (or controllers) that have been problematic I simply run Joy2Key instead and let that do the business of working properly. It basically tries to emulate the Xbox One controller, so it's meant for things like the Dualshock 4, but it can also help in situations like yours where even regular controllers like the Xbox one aren't playing nicely or games aren't.

I can't guarantee this will fix things well enough, but it's worth a try.

I've actually been using WiiuSoft to connect my Wii U Pro controllers - I'll see how these behavior with my PS4 and Xbox pads. I run the Xbox pad native, and the PS4 controllers through DS4Windows.

I'll get back to you on it

Best of luck. I know a fair number of people use DS4Windows and a couple of others. Frankly I've found that when there's a problem, Joy2Key usually is the one that sorts it out. At least for me, I've found that.

I can't speak for other people. Still, no harm in having more options.
