Friends Steam account, can I use it?
Hi, Im new on Steam and I was wondering is it alright to play a game on a friends Steam account? A friend told me he has a game I might like since Im broke and only play demos and texted me the username and password. Is this safe? Thanks.

Just make your own Steam account and then have your friend Steam Family Share their games with you.

Sharing accounts any other way with another users is against the SSA/TOS. So it is not "safe" for the account to be used by two people because Valve could lock your friends account for breaking the SSA/TOS by giving you the password/login name for it.

Thank you very much for your reply and suggestion.

Hanomaly's answer was already enough, but I still want to add something:
- if your friend gets a ban in the future, he might suspect you and you will have NO way to prove it wasn't you
- if you use his account and later you have your own account, please do NOT feel forced to give him your account data. Just don't.

Btw, just out of interest, what kind of game do you like so much that you are thinking about using the account of someone else?

If he doesn't share login info it should be safe

Hi there and thank you for replying. This is my account and I logged into his and played for two days and I will take your advice and not feel pressured to later share my account with him if he asks.

I like interactive games like Life is Strange and Beyond:Two Souls. First game I ever played was Indigo Prophecy and I fell I love with that game genre. Unfortunately I don't often get the chance to play them.

It's actually very easy to prove. If OP doesn't have a ban, then it wasn't their fault.

Family share VAC bans only go one way. Share -> owner, not owner -> share.

Aye, but this is about account sharing, not family sharing, which is against the ToS, as stated previously.
I uninstalled the steam app and wont be logging into his account because today a notification popped up saying "steam desktop available for streaming" and I got paranoid that he might be streaming whats on my monitor. The person isn't really my friend just some guy I met online. lol

Just in case you are interested, here is the official support page on the subject :

Never use an account unless you created it and it is actually your account.
