Content Servers Unreachable no fix?
I don't know where else to turn. I have already done every troubleshooting solution there is on this issue and none seem to work.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling steam several times.
I tried checking the proxy settings
I have checked DNS Settings
I have changed region download servers
I have deleted the downloads cache
I have restored my system back to a point where steam was working properly
I have no antivirus blocking steams connection
Windows firewall lists steam as an exception and allows connection
I have turned off windows firewall.
Only other symptom I have is that when signing into steam, it will come up with a network error, but trying a second time allows me to sign in. None of the games I try to reinstall or update even hop into the download list. I am at my wits end and am looking for anyone who may know of a solution.
Only further details about what happened is that When i tried to download controller configurations this morning, the client was always unable to download. Upon looking for solutions I saw someone post to uninstall steam and delete the registry files. After doing so and reinstalling steam this happened. All games are lost and I can't figure out any way to fix it.

EDIT: steam has no network connection whatsoever, however signing into the client works. Verifying identity does not, ex: ERROR there was an error communicating with steam servers. Please try again later. I can only assume this means something is keeping my steam client from having internet access, but this still happens even with firewall off and no programs conflicting with steam.

I'm having the same problem since 11 AM of January 25 (Philippines time), yes before that I was browsing & doing forum stuff on the steam client. I have intermittent success (mostly failure) to connect to the Steam server via the following scenarios in the Steam client:
- Verifying Steam Client version << 5 mins to complete, consistent because it got programmed to skip the version checking
- Login Authentication << usually 10 mins to success or failure to log in
- Upon success login, loading the Steam Store home page << 5 mins as well with an expired user session id already
- Pre-loading the game I want to install << Always failed due to no response from the server

I thought I misconfigure my stuff again, I even format cleaned my HDD.
I did check the logs on the Steam folder. There's something wrong on the server-side.

This is from the log when authenticating, too many retry to connect & get the response from the target server.

I've been experiencing this as well, I just want to ask if reformatting the PC actually help? Cause if it does that would be my last resort.

I did format mine and no, it didn't help. I haven't tried accessing via VPN to see if that's a temporary workaround.
I reinstalled windows 7 on a different SSD and it didn't helped. So no, do not try to reformat. Wait for an update.

I live in the US and I have a VPN I use to connect to France from work, doesn't help

Still having this issue. Steam support said it was an ISP problem. Contacted my ISP. They said the problem was Steam. I guess I'll have to do without my games for who knows how long.

ive had the problem since january 1st. tried everything, but nothing works.

@The Giving One. As you can see, more and more users are having the same problem described here. Now, there is another problem related to the fact that all the games have to download an update.
Please, just admit it that steam has a big problem and they're blaming us.
So more and more users are posting about a "content servers unreachable" error, but all games just recently had to download updates, which had nothing at all due to the error and original issue.

So how can updates be downloaded if no one can reach the content servers to download such updates ?

Good question, right ? Because the few posting in this thread have issues on their end that are related to this error, and we have been seeing people blame Valve here for their connection and/or update issues for years.

Read the answer to this thread in the big blue box here, from a Valve employee and remember, it's bettter to get the facts than jump to conclusions that are not based on any of those facts :

https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/1780513643843119478/

Again, those updates have nothing to do with this error. Totally different situation that just happens to have been going on at the same time as a few others that are having this error with the content servers.

It's much easier to just blame Valve, make "me too" and "same here" posts in a thread, than actually work together in a thread and troubleshoot the issue correctly, I know.

Now I would be pleased to try to help you and anyone here, but I have been seeing you just post to tell everyone to give up and just wait for an update because it is Valve's fault. So there is probably no way you would be willing to work towards a solution, or follow suggestions that one would make to try to help you.

what do you think we're doing here. You're judging everyone off of one person.

I'd also be willing to bet just about everyone with this issue had it happen randomly. As I did. As of right now we've tried a lot of solutions to fix the problem only for them to fail and valve is not talking. They have some explaining to do if even the community hasn't found a fix in almost a month. Or at least acknowledge it.

Please look at the quote of that post I made. That was not in reply to you, and that user is making similar posts to me in other threads, that I am now ignoring.

Please, just answer the posts that I make to you, thanks.

Given the parameters we've tested and the differing situations of all of the people affected, and judging by how the only solution so far that seems to have worked is for it to randomly start again, and being someone who works for a web company, I'm reasonably sure this is on Valve's end. It doesn't have to affect every user for it to be on their end; Valve can be using A/B testing to put users in different groups, some with a test feature, others without, and some feature may be broken. Or users who have some very specific setting somewhere, maybe not even a setting in their control, may be affected. It may be a confluence of issues resulting from network cards, ISPs, drivers, the cold front moving through the middle of the US, or any number of other things, but at the end of the day, it's very much looking like something Valve messed up and Valve needs to fix.

Really, even if it wasn't their problem, they should have customer service reps on hand to help people through the issues. I've tried every step on their knowledge base, and plenty outside it, and nothing has worked, and they seem extremely elusive in terms of getting help. I can't find where to file a ticket.

Dude, i appreciate that you're trying to help everybody around here, i really do. But please, understand that i'm a network administrator and sys admin in my company. I have tried everything in my domain of knowledge, which i listed earlier, and absolutely nothing worked, except for changing to the usb wireless card, which still works now.

I write to anyone to give up, because without this answer, they will lose time and data to reinstall windows, to alter their router settings for NOTHING, like i did.
If i had an answer like : "hey, chillax, its Steam's fault. They broke something since the last update. There is no need for reinstalling your windows, or changing your router settings, or etc. Just gave them time to repair their mistake", that would have been awesome!

Now, after one week of changing all sort of settings, forwarded all kinds of ports, reinstalling windows and switching drivers, changing content server location, changing dns, bypass the content servers, i have lost all my hope that i can make steam connect to the internet.

My only remaining answer is that the problem is with steam.

Their answer? : "check with your ISP."
Do you think that is a good answer for a guy who invested more than 4000E in his steam library, tried everything, and can't download anything?

Right now, I can download/update like normal and connect like normal in safe mode with networking, but nothing works when in normal computer mode. WTF is going on here? Is there a service not working correctly that runs in normal mode? I don't know what this means.
