Is it possible to play a game while downloading another?

Steam -> Settings -> Downloads -> Download Restrictions -> Allow downloads during gameplay.
Or on a per-game basis: Right click -> Properties -> Updates -> Background Downloads.

Sometimes you have to alt-tab and manually un-pause the download still.

Click the 'steam' word on the top left of the steam app. Open settings, and go to downloads. Check 'allow downloads during gameplay' and then click ok. You should now be able to play games and download games at the same time.

Or play a non Steam game whilst the Steam game downloads.

when doing this limit ur download speed to 1-2mb lower then ur acual speed as steam likes to take all of it when its uncaped to the point u cant stream youtube.

Start the game you want to play

Alt tab to steam and hit downloads. Then resume the download you want.

And finally return to your already opened game.

For Individual games you can either set them to follow Steam settings (usually not to download while playing) or can set something different in Properties for each game.

You can play while downloading as long as you have made sure you ticked the box that allows you to.
