Your new game...Phantom Comment

It says I have 1 New Comment. I click on the comment and it says "BossGalaga
now owns X more games" but there's no comment, just a box that shows the games I've recently purchased. So someone made a comment, it's still there but I can't see it.

To clarify, the notification won't go away.

Any clue?

edit: It's been fixed now by some unknown benevolent force.

This is indeed what happens, it seems. I was in the middle of setting up the Steam Family Library, so my sister could check out a game I bought 6 days ago once I'm done. I don't know if this is related, but somehow Steam posted another purchase summary notification that included said game plus a few I bought during the Steam Summer Sale 2017. So something in the code for the sale seems to be causing this bug at least in part.

The phantom comment I received was for that one game I bought 6 days ago (weeks after the sale), but because Steam put all those games into one purchase summary again for whatever reason, the comment that was posted for just that one game did not show up, which made it impossible to get rid of the notification.

The way I solved it was by simply going to the Activity tab and scrolling down until I found the activity for the day I bought the game to find the single game purchase notification thing my friend commented on. Then the 1 Unread Comment notification finally disappeared.

It's a pain but you may have to browse the activity tab and go back all the way to the Steam sale to maybe find the phantom comment. Good luck and thanks to BossGalaga for putting me on the right path.

Wish that was an option for me with over 600 friends and around 3 months old problem would have to scroll for days and get lucky to actually find the comment...

I guess im stuck with that single notification forever or at least until they ever fix this annoying problem

Wish I found this sooner, actually ... I recently ran into that myself. I tried Teksura's suggestion (mark all as read) prior to this, though. It fixed the issue.
