Anyone still playing Civ V? How do you crack Deity level?
Can't play Civ VI on my computer, so had to keep playing V. But still great fun with the expansion pack. Can win comfortably on the level below Deity (usually science). Any advice?

I Turn off Science.. The Ai will almost always out tech you. Although if you want any chance of winning Diety. You are playing Catch up for most of the game so you might be able to do with a science civ, you have to get big leaps. Like eliminate a strong opponent, Try to make an strategic ally. I like using Raging Barbs too, it helps keep the Ai from exploring as deep and maybe stops a settlement or two. This way you can get extra culture with honour, A lot of it is pretty damn hard. I recomend saving frequently, it's how I did it. I'd reload old saves several times, good luck man it's not really to be fair :)

If Immortal is doable for you Diety is not too different to approch. If you take full advantage of your civs abilities and take every opportunity to slow down your opponent. Maybe steal your first worker from a city state. I also think it takes a good starting position, but I'm also no pro at civ so I need a bit of luck ;)

Thanks enigmatic. Saving regularly is probably the way to go as you say.
I often have a look round the terrain at the beginning of a game and restart so I can position my first city in the best location. Perhaps I'll try winning another way apart from science. With a view to win by domination, I guess it would be a more clear cut way to take on the AI. Smash and grab!

Just don't play diety it involves tonnes of cheap tricks that break the game. Like making trades with your opponent for a lux for like 240 gold and then declaring war the next turn (which breaks the trade) and doing this to every computer which enables you to buy a massive army of archers or whatever really early and then wipe out your neighbour, steal every worker from city states and it's just not fun. Imo emperor is the best difficulty as games are not free you will lose wonders you want, the opponent will out settle you unless you rush doing it, you are unlikely to get first pantheon/religion. But you can go for any victory condition don't have to rush science only (boring) and can instead explore other policy trees and explore other strategies.

I've played this game for hundred of hours and I'm not Deity level myself. I know it'd feel rewarding to do so, but honestly, just play the level you're comfortable you feel it becomes too easy for you, then go one level higher.

And if the level higher is too hard for you, a good in-between, I feel, is to change the number of opponents. More opponents mean a slightly more difficult game (more civilizations to conquer in Domination, more City-States to ally with in Diplomatic, etc.), but still easier than what the next difficulty level have to offer for the same amount of opponents.

So, yeah, just do that, train at the level you're comfortable with, and eventually maybe Deity will be good for you!

Althought, honestly, one advice I can already give you is prepare to get yourself invaded in Deity. Heavily! You'll need major defenses very quickly!

Deity is doable, but you have to take good cities from the AI rather than building them yourself.

@TheFaithOfLeftismSucks has made a few replies to several threads on beating deity, he likes England + Archepeliago. I tried his strategy and it worked, so if you make a couple searches through the discussions you should find his comments.

it's a completely different game at that level and you must play sneaky. Bribe other Civ's to go to war, steal tech's where you can and save your Great People to 'pop' at the right time. As well as being selective about your own choice of civ, also choose your opponents; because if Greece (my personal pet hate) or one of the science civ's turns up in a random selection you are pretty much 'stuffed'.

Raging barbarians does slow all civs down but it has its downside as well; you don't want to be repairing tiles as well as everything else being a challenge. You need a huge amount of luck and a great start and do keep saving.

Other than that, have fun and good luck.

Yep, easiest way I know to beat Deity, and the most fun - is England or Venice on Archipelago.

If you know the basics of what to build when(which you must if beating Immortal) and can get your science sorted, it's often straight forward.

Get your trade routes going, get your Universities, get an Armoury. Build a few Frigates and buy a few, then go to war. Just attack Ships and units until you get Range promotion, then attack cities(need 15 shots on Ships/units to get Range). Hopefully the Civ you're attacking has nice wonders. The first I try and get myself is Brandenburg.

When the AI gets Flights, go for peace untill you have Battleships, Fighters(not Triplanes), and a Sub - then you can resume. They will kill your precious promoted Frigates with Bombers, so don't risk it.

I've gone into much more detail somwhere. I can win on Continents too, but it's harder. I've just won as Arabia, after a few tries, and am trying as Korea, but got a far from ideal start. We'll see.

I've won as all Maritime Civs on Archipelago except Carthage I think. I've also won as lot of none maritime Civs.

Archipelago is really all about naval units. Continents you need land and naval.

This is for Dom win. I'd expect science to be much eaier to be honest - I mostly get in the lead with Tech, and was miles in the lead as Arabia. I'd find it a bit boring, so never try for Space Race win, and quite often abstain when I could win Diplo.

Also, I'd recommend watching Marbozir(given this advice so many times).

I won my first Deity game as England on Continents, after watching his Deity game as Germany.

I've watche a few more playthroughs now, Japan, Mongols and been Watching Korea too, and part of his Aztecs. He has the answer of how to do it. Take your pick which you watch. I find them entertainling to be honest - better than most TV.

If you want to beat Deity level consistently, the conqueror strategy is a viable approach as outlined here https://pageii.com/story;title=How-do-you-win-Civilization-V-on-Immortal-or-Deity

My tips, mostly for military victory but also works as good start or other victory conditions:

  • Early exploration is important. go out your scout, two if you can, to discover other civs and make friends. Trade with them if you can, this can ensure a declaration of firendship later.
  • Forget wonders in the early game, the AIs will build all the wonders. But you can take all the wonders from them later.
  • Keep a large enough army to avoid unwanted wars. You can check if your army is big enough from military advisor.
  • Manage your diplomatic relationship. This is very important as you never want to fight more than one AI at a time. Go trading and make friends. When you fight wars, you want allies (even if they provide no help at all), and you never want to become a warmonger. Therefore never wipe out another civ, just let someone else do the dirty work.
  • You also want to play some proxy wars to make sure no AI ever grows too big, or at least delay their growth.
  • Some early game tips: You MUST go for an early war, preferably star it around turn 50 (at normal speed, that is). Why? Because the AI cheats, they get tons of bonuses. What should you, a human player with no bonus, do to catch up? You take all the bonuses from the AI! Prepare for an early war, and take one of your neighbor's cities. Usually, the AI should have ~5 cities at this point, you should take 3 from this poor neighbor and ensure he never rises again. The war should end around turn 70~75.
  • Another war should be started around turn 80, and be finished around turn 100. Same goal: knock out another neighbor and make sure he doesn't come back. These two wars are the most important ones. If you manage to do this, you're half way to victory.
  • Two more wars between turn 100 and turn 150. Game should be much easier at this point. knocking out 4 Ais and stealing their bonuses means you should have enough resources to pursue desired victory condition.

I wish the AI got better strategically as you upped the difficulty. But they just nerf your happiness and let the AI cheat resources. The out comes are the same basically, they are just harder to surpass.

Easy pick a warmongering civ of your choice.
Pick a duel map, enable domination victory , put Venice as only AI civ.

Rush them .. win.
That's how i "cracked" Diety ^^
Empire Aug 24, 2018 @ 2:03pm
My method for a deity win is completgely different from the above. Play as Venice and go for a diplomatic victory. I've done this on both Earth and Tiny Islands maps. You have to be perfect though, and pray that nobody attacks you and eats all your trade routes.

I am not sure if Deity win is possible on a huge map (2-3 continents) with 22 Civs and 42 City states.

It is, as Venice. It's possible to generate 500 GPT + be clever with strategy to get all CS allies

I just (a month ago) beat a game with those setups, 22 civs and 42 city states. Check my hints in the other topics - ''Best Domination vic'' and ''best way to beat deity (or something like this)''. Sweden is best civ.
