game page says 5 GB disk needed but when installing 17.3 Gb is needed?
I bought Medieval 2 as the description says that it should work on my old potato PC and one of the requirement is:
Disk Space: 5 GB of uncompressed hard drive space

however, when i tried to install it today it said 17.3 GB needed, download will take 2.something hours. why do i suddenly need 17 GB?

For me the store page of Medieval 2 says:
"11GB of uncompressed free hard disk space"

Also this version includes the Kingdoms DLC which adds another few GB.
Together it takes 14,73 GB free install space for me and the download is a compressed 10.4 GB.

Where do you see 5 GB ?

Furthermore, NEVER EVER take the install size as the size you need as many games need more than that for swap files and decompression.

Plus you shouldn't be running your hard disk THAT full. Valve recommend around 90% full for proper operation. Anything more and you're just inviting problems, not least of which slow performance and things not working.

Every time any of those games that on that drive need to update where are they going to go if your drive is that full?

SO, free up some space and ALWAYS make sure never to run that hard on space, and make sure you allow as a rule of thumb well over double the space required for install to allow for the install to run correctly.

I dont see him saying that his HDD is full anywhere.
He was just wondering why the game needs more space then he previously assumed.

No he doesn't but I've been on here years and it's almost EVERY time someone asks questions like this, it's because they are patying attention to it. And you know WHY they pay attention?

Because they are invariably running things near to the max.

SO I was just over egging the pudding on my answer. I try to offer as complete an asnswer as I can and foresee the likely obstacles.

Read more carefully, also have like 2.5* the recommended storage space available for moving files around and what not.

looks like i misread it. the kingdoms DLC is 5 GB, but definitive is 11 GB. so i guess the rest of specs are ok then.

i have 1.3 TB disk free, so space is not an issue actually. i was worried something was wrong with specs in general. but looks like this game should run well then on this old PC.

No problem. I only included that answer just in case space was an issue for you, and well, you might have learned something new, hey?
