PC won't recognize PS4 controller
For whatever reason, I can't seem to get my Dual Shock 4 controller to pair up with my PC when plugged in. I simply get a single yellow light that fades. I've restarted my PC a few times to see if that works, no luck there. I've tried to enable it in my devices but nothing seems to change.

I had an issue not long ago when I couldn't get Owlboy to read my controller despite other games being able to, and making a change that I for the life of me can't remember what I did. Up until my most recent Windows update it was functioning, now it's not, and I have no idea now how to fix it. Please help.

I think i found the solution that will put an end to this.
I was using DS4 Windows (version 1.7.24), when i took a close detail.
With "Hide DS4 Controller" setting on, it says "Using exclusive mode", so i turn it off and it says "Using shared mode". That is when i plug the controller in and it works!

Okay so this is driving me insane. I bought a new micro usb cable the other day, and I've been playing Monster hunter World on Steam and Outer Wilds on EGS no problem. I just got finished playing Outer Wilds, booted up MHW, and all of a sudden my controller isn't being detected. Booted Outer Wilds back up - it doesn't work any more. I try a different cable, and it works (the cable is like 30cm/a foot long - so way too short to use).
Fine, I need a new cable, malfunctions are a thing... no worries.
Except when I plug the controller into my laptop with the new "faulty" cable, it works perfectly fine... I've tried different USB slots to no avail.
Genuinely at a loss here, lads.
As a general rule of thumb (it might not be the case here though), if you get a USB cable that charges, and it will work in one outlet but not in another it's going to be down to current draw.

Namely, it can't get enough for whatever reason. If it's working in one, then it may be that the wiring inside is too fine to carry the current and is pretty marginal, so that it'll only work if you use a USB port that just pushes it over the edge.

You can check this by finding other devices that use the same connection, which have a smaller amps/hour charge and if they run and charge fine, that's your issue.

Cheap chinese made cables (especially those you can find cheap on Amazon) are notorious for this sort of thing.

Interesting, thanks. I don't suppose you have any recommendations for cables?

Basically anything that works and is recommended or advertised as doing fast charge is a good starting point.

The one I bought was touted as a "fast charging cable", and was in the higher price range of the ones I saw on Amazon. I'm going to assume I just got unlucky and got a faulty one and try again.
Thanks for the advice.

Yeah, you have to be careful ESPECIALLY on sites like Amazon - Chinese goods (even if not directly from Chinese sellers) will lie barefaced about things. You can easily see 1080p webcams and so that just aren't anything close, for example.

The only way to check is to look at cable width, but even that's not certain as it's made up of shielding, sleeving and wire. They can skimp on one and pad it out with the other (as metals are the most expensive, guess which one gets the short straw?)

So all you can really do is either be patient and gamble on a few and return those that don't do as stated. Pain in the arse, but hey. Or you do some digging, Googling or asking around for known brands that most certainly are fast charging cables, and just go for them.

Best of luck.

I had just purchased a brand new PS4 controller and was also having the issue of my computer not recognizing it at all when I plugged it in, and I was able to fix it!

With the PS4 controller, I also purchased an official Playstation 10ft micro-USB cable, and it recognized the controller the SECOND I tried an old micro-USB cable. Not sure why this caused it, but hopefully this can help someone else :)

That's very common.

Simply because all USB cables are not the same. Some have more pins used, others have different power draw. You should ALWAYS try to use the supplied cable with whatever you're using - just a heads up.
Found a fix. My problem was that windows gave me an error and didn't even recognise the device (ps4 controller). What i did was open up the controller, then plug the charger cable in. While the controller was "connected" to my pc, i pulled out the ribbon cable beneath the battery, then slid it back in. Hope this fixes the issue for other ppl aswell.

Go to control panel
Go to Devices and Printers
Uninstall the controller(s)
Plug in your controller(s) again

Yeah that's how you're supposed to cnnect them.

You should ALWAYS plug the charger cable in FIRST and let it recognise that way.

Okay guys. I found a fix. You just have to uninstall hid guardian and restart your computer. I have been looking for a solution for months. And infact it was because of an old program affiliated with ds4 windows that is hid guardian.
i hope it will work for you like me !

Here is a link for how to proceed : https://docs.ds4windows.app/troubleshooting/ds4w-controller-detection/

Buy a cable that is power and data. Only yellow = battery charging there is no data throughput on that cable
