Steam keeps putting me offline

It seems like multiple times a day it puts me offline for no reason and I have to manually switch my status back to online in the friends tab. Googling the problem gave some threads with useless answers - assuming your internet or steam is down. My internet and/or steam don't go down multiple times a day. I am online, steam is online, it lists me as offline in my friends list without me manually toggling it.

I've been having this problem too for a couple months. My internet is fine and hasn't been going down, it's only Steam friend list.

One suggestion that came up was to turn on the "dock chats to the friends list" setting. I haven't tried it for long enough to know if it works because I have my friends list window minimized to keep more screen real estate open. Might be worth a try if you don't mind it.

Myself and two other people on my friends list have the same problem. This is the first discussion I've been able to find regarding this issue. I have only observed this happening after spending some time playing a game, roughly after an hour or so.

Shrinni, thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to give that a shot and (hopefully remember to) report back if it works.

Update: So far docking chat to the friends list SEEMS to work. Only tested it over a couple of hours, however.

It's been happening for the past month or two it's really annoying and I hope they fix it in the next steam client update. Might be a covid-19 thing though to reduce server load for the chat client.

I have this issue also. I keep getting disconnected when chatting with people. Seems like steam is getting very buggy recently. Wheneer i try to chat to my friends, i got chat errors and unable to post errors. This might be because there is alot of people on steam recently and the servers are overloading. Just a hunch. I did test my ISP recently to see if it is at fault on my end. Apparently, they traced it when i went online for a game and found no issues.

Can't say what that is , try all steam library mode reduce as much as you can. ( reduce bandwid , turn as much down as possible )
look like pc cant handle it and network into them with keep alive is lesser somehow.
do not have VPN or wifi or OC pc.

all of those things can be seen as problem with resource's on your pc.

plenty of post over 10 years with this, but to say whats this is. do not underestimated contact own ISP , check for bad packets even

its like something aient working correctly or congested area sense traffic sometimes work or nothing work

besure you have right country and time zone and in sync with time server.

if any knew what this is we will have told you.

( and no one dare to say try new OS installation even , but what if you get same issue. )
confirm with other pc to narrow down is this from isp into steam or your orher pc its that simple.

try safeboot mode dont come here afterwards and claim you antivirus doing it or that app, all this should be proof from spare test pc or deny its same issue.

let me put it this way if my laptop work at your place i will proof either way into steam or your pc might have a issue , what are the chance 2 pc do same mistake as 2 diffrent pc owner
