Update downloads to the wrong drive- no way to change it.
Installed Satisfactory, which for some reason insist on using an NTFS drive; normally I install to a larger FAT32 one, so that's where I generally install by default.

However, when trying to update Satisfactory, it kept failing with an 'incompatible drive' error similar to what I originally got when trying to install it on my FAT32 drive- despite changing my default library folder back to my NTFS drive and restarting Steam.

Ultimately I had to resort to uninstall/reinstall, but this involves a 5Gb download instead of a 10Mb one. Is there any way to get this update to work without the reinstall? I really don't want to have to do this every time.

Fat32 is dead, you dont have NTFS Rights on newer games, and can actual get game fail

and i think you most have outdate system that use fat32.

and steam sense windows vista has use NTFS

-----
only old games from past generation that use winXP has fat32 as default,
and im not even sure steam itself accept old system anymore.
so it sounds like you have new OS and use outdate disk security. sounds like a win7/8 user.
sense you do Fat32.

as i recall just by name Satisfactory is a new game.

other things Fat32 waste more disk place then NTFS, there are no pro's anymore to use fat32
it actual require old OS that use that and you have apps that only run on it ( you most be a geek to know such and experience enough not use it online. ( gaming pc or other test purpose )

so something dont added up here. ( either you dont know better , nothing wrong with that nobody can blaim you for that )

you could say steam issue, for allow use old FAT32 , but again actual not steam issue what OS and disk system is made in..

there is only win10 left, win8 no main support anymore, only leftover time until its dead and gone

My FAT32 drive is shared with a Linux system, I'm well aware of the fact it's not preferred by Windows. However, this has nothing to do with why Satisfactory won't upgrade, it shouldn't even be going anywhere near that drive, but the error indicates that it is.

ahh diffrent os, you might point at wrong multi disk or not the default one.

and you should have ask in own Linux Group, i bet they know all about it there.

This is nothing to do with Linux. I only mentioned that because I happen to have a drive that is shared with a separate Linux system (I literally unplug it and plug it into the linux box when I need it). I'm trying to update Satisfactory that's installed on an NTFS drive, this shouldn't be an issue.

I've seen a number of games try to update to the wrong drive - Ark is notorious for that.

One workaround I could suggest trying.

Go to Steam settings > Downloads. Go to the bit at the top of that window where you add hard drives for installation. Remove the drive you don't want it to install to, ideally leaving just the drive you wish.

Then let it update and it'll only have a choice of ONE drive to download to.

Once it#'s finshed, add the drive back.

Already changed that so the NTFS drive was the default, but it still didn't take. Didn't try removing the FAT32 drive altogether, but I DID get it to work by literally unplugging it :)
