Cannot Verify Game Files or Run Files After Transfer
So I just got a new computer and transferred my second drive from my last to this one. I added the game file directory in steam and all of my games show up as installed... yay :). But when I try to run anything it does absolutely nothing... just nothing at all. When I go and try to verify the game integrity, it is greyed out and won't let me click it. If I click to open up the game file (like where the actual game files are), it brings me to the proper files, and if I try to run the game through the .exe in the game files then it works... am I missing something here? I've tried rebooting steam, reinstalling and installing, made sure it's updated, and hell I even checked to make sure my nvidia is up to date. (I know my pc can run everything - win10, 8gb ram, 7th gen i5, 4gb gpu)

You said "game file directory"...

If you did not also get the .acf files from your steamapps folder (normally you backup or save this entire folder), then Steam cannot see your games as installed, thus the verify cache button will be greyed out or unselectable.

I literally transferred my entire SSD, so all of my steamapps file was transferred over to my new pc.

Go to the steamapps folder. Open it up. How many .acf files do you have in there and then how many games did you have installed on that drive before you moved it ?

EDIT..See this, please.

Everything is there. It's the exact same. 63 .acf's and 63 games. I just tried it with a game I installed after the transfer, and I can't verify that one either (it's in the same drive and in the same file, but I can run it from the actual steam application unlike all of the others).

No no, my games are showing AS installed, I just can't run them or verify them.

Verywell, as I just wanted to be sure. Those files are important.

See my edit above, please. You probably just need to do what is suggested on that support page.

EDIT..Please do not multipost. It causes confusion. Thanks.

I just read that page and I did literally everything in there. The directory I said I added was me doing this section word per word "Add previously existing alternate installation libraries/folders to Steam." I see everything, just can't use them or verify.

Well then you probaby need to create new registry paths to that drive since you moved it.

Save or backup your steamapps folder.

Reinstall Steam over the EXACT existing location where you have it installed now. This will overwrite the existing installation.

Then move that steamapps folder back in to where it normally belongs.

There's an issue there. I have about 400 GB free on my main drive (where steam is installed, but no games are), and I have a hair over 600GB of games in my steamapps.

Whatever you do from this point on while attempting to resolve this, you need to save or backup that steamapps folder.

If you lose the .acf files or game files, you will have to redownload all those games.

Alright, fair enough. I've just copied them over to a folder on my desktop. I can try a few other random things and pray they work.

Well I'm stupid. It was because the drive wasn't labeled as the same letter before the switch (before it was E and it changed it to F). Or at least changing that fixed it.

So the issue is fixed then ? If so, that is great. At least you did not lose the files. Don't worry, it happens to all of us at some point.

Sorry if anything I said was confusing for any reason and hey, thanks for replying back as to what you did to apparently fix it. Good luck to you unless you need more help now.

Yeah, it's fixed and thank you for helping :) and you weren't confusing, I think I just didn't explain everything thoroughly enough. And nope, no help needed anymore :)
