slow download speed on steam?
i used to get like 1Mb/s download speed (and yes that might still be pretty slow but it works for me) but today when i tried to install a game that's only 2Gb it went down to 57kb/s and then hovers around 400-500kb/s so my question is there anyway i can fix this and get my 1Mb/s speed back?

Try going into the settings and changing your download region. It may improve things or it may not but it’s the first thing that you should try.

Slow Downloads and Connection to Content Servers

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9498-WPDF-3220

You can also try various regions near your location to see if a better connection is available.

Try many, and try some very, very far away from you also.

It can also maybe matter what game you are trying to download. Payday 2 and ARK seem to have this issue often for some users.

That's weird. If your download region is correct then that must be a Steam servers problems or your device/internet device have a problem detecting connection, does everything else work normally? like youtube videos or things like that
There is no "correct" download region, just the one closest to the user and the one you normally use.

The "correct" one might be considered the one that gives the fastest and most stable and complete download.

That's what I said. "Correct region", basically the closest region that'll give you the best download speed, in my case is Argentina because I live there, I'm not sure if there's one for every country tho.
But the closest is not always going to be the best one to use. Normally, yes, but not always.

Yes, everything except steam works normally like they should.

There can be any number of reasons why that does not matter, necessarily.

Did you try changing regions, as suggested in the first post ? You seem to have skipped right over that post and only then replied to the next user.

How many regions did you try ?

Did you try some very, very far away from you ?

What game are you downloading ?

Please answer all these as best as you can.

I tried singapore, malaysia (because those are the only countries that are like next to me) and no i didn't try regions that are far away from me, i was trying to download day of defeat source

Then please, try other regions and try some very, very far away from you.

Just because a region is close to you, that does not mean it is not having issues. Any number of regions might be having issues at any time, so it's best for you to try many of them and some far away also.

I have seen cases, and have proof, where all of them had to be tried, before the user got a stable and fast download of the data.

I think this might be a problem with my isp because everything started to slow down an hour or two after i posted this discussion (like loading pages, watching youtube, etc)

That is definitely possible, but we were just trying to get you to try the simple things first, before we moved on to other suggestions.

Feel free to keep trying regions and considering your ISP also as the issue. If more help is needed, we can try other suggestions.
