I would like to add my old non-steam games to my steam account (Red Alert 3, Tiberium Wars)
Hello,

I would like to add my old non-steam games to my steam account (Red Alert 3, Tiberium Wars). I bought a new laptop that does not have a cd/dvd drive and so the games are not installed on my new computer - therefore I can't choose them from my computer in the adding a non steam game to the library section. I don't have my old computer and I don't plan on buying a dvd player. I have the game dvds with serial numbers. Is it possible to add them somehow to the steam library when they are not installed on a computer? Or is buying them again (this time via steam) an only option?

In most cases, the keys that came with the CDs don't work on Steam, so you'd have to buy the game again.
Hello,

no its not possible to add them to your steam library if they are not installed on your computer.
But i do think the cheaper option to get the games running is to buy a small dvd driver but you can also buy the games on steam if the are in the store if you want to i can hava a look at amazon for a dvd/cd player

as far as i know the way the "add a non steam game" option works is you basically choose a file(not necessarily a game)that exists on your pc and steam just adds it.That being said i think the only way to add them as non steam games is to buy a dvd player and install them or you could simply take your cds to another pc or maybe a friend's pc,download your games in a usb and then pass them on to your pc.If you cant do any of these i guess you will need to buy them on steam
Since they're ea games, you might be able to register them on origin.

i dont think so too
You would need to install them to a USB drive then you can add them to Steam as a non Steam game using the browse. It works for me.
You say you don't plan on buying a CD player?

I think you should consider it, as I bought a new laptop recently and it didn't have a DVD drive either. I bought a brand new Asus external one for £19 new from Amazon.

At that price, maybe it's something worth considering?

Yeah, frankly speaking, it's a real no brainer - they're so cheap and involve ♥♥♥♥ all work to get going. Just plug in the USB cable and it goes immediately.
Thanks for all your replies, they're very helpful. I tried to register them on EA but I couldn't do that (nor could I download them using my serial number). So now I know what are my options.

Thanks that's very nice of you, it won't be necessary - I haven't decided yet what to do in that situation. If I have any more questions I'll get back to you.

Go for it if you need help

No Problem
Yeah I know that the easiest way out is buying a dvd player, I will consider it, I'm not in a hurry just considering my options. Thanks
If you do want to repurchase them on Steam, waiting for the Summer sale in June might be a good option.
