Steam Download Keep Resetting to 0gb How is it not fixed yet?
I know I know there's a lot of discussion of it already, but its already a few years ago yet this problem still occur. My question is why does Valve seems to neglect it? Since some of the steam user does not have a fast/stable internet speed and how do we actually "fix" it other than copying the downloaded file and download patch over and over before shutting down?

This is not a rant or troll, its a legit question because unfortunately I have limited access to internet. Thank you in advance.

Some games pause the download to work on disc. PayDay2 and Ark are two of them. Check the downloads page.

Write and read, of course. Maybe unpack and compile.

@Wabbajack,

Have the same issue with downloading a large file. It started at 0 again and i closed steam and the download the correct way but it didn't resume the download.

Any solution?

It's not bug a bug, basically. It's how it's supposed to work.

The game downloads a bit, then the computer unpacks it and collates it, and writes it to disk. Then it downloads a bit more.

A lot of games are different, so some do this, others don't. But it's not a bug.

So if its the case, say if i downloaded 2GB out of 10GB, shutdown the pc then when I continue to download the game how does it became 0GB of 10GB not 0GB of 8GB?

What is the indication that game will do this?

It won't, because the "of" bit is always the TOTAL size of the files needed. It doesn't add up the files YOU have left to download. So, in this case, it will ALWAYS be 10GB< regardless of how mouch you've already downloaded.

It SHOULD resume at 2GB of 10GB though, but sometimes it can fail when rechceking the files already downloaded, in which case it will reacquire them all.

So what is the cause of the failure?
if I downloaded 2GB of 10GB then forced to redownload and after i finished the download will it 12GB or 10GB?

No, as I said, it will ONLY EVER be 10GB as that's the grand sum of the files for the game download.

If it reverts to 0GB downloaded then some sort of error happened and it was found when checking the files when you resumed, so it has to start acquiring them again. But it will only EVER Be 10GB.

It can't make the game bigger.

Well that's a relief that the game wont have increased size

But I still don't understand why the download process revert to 0GB, some say its because the slow internet and some say its because the game itself (like Sr. Xyz said).

If you've got slow internet, you could easily have poor quality internet too.

And as I said, if it checks that which you've downloaded and finds errors there, it will reacquire the files again. That's how it's supposed to work.

If it didn't do this, you would download ALL Of it, then find out it doesn't work, and then you'd have to download all 10GB again.

So what is the actual cause of the error? I apologize if I'm annoying my because I could not grasp it fast enough :(
