Steam saves in "My Documents" Folder.
Any way I can change this so it creates saves within the Steam folder in C: Drive?

Nope.

Individual games have it hard coded where they save, unless that game explicitly gives you the option to save elsehwere. In short, it's game dependent.

What I can recommend is GameSaveManager. It's a damned good piece of software that takes a lot of the pain of handling saves - it can back them up for you and do a lot of other things automatically.

Where a game generate game files is really up to the developer.

This varies per game, and most games don't allow you to choose where saves are generated.

Right ok thanks. Not overly bothered, was just trying to have a tidy up

If I move the folder with saves in will it fail to read them?

Yup.

But that's again why I recommended GameSaveManager. You can let it back them up for you. If you've got a fair few games, it's a real boon I can tell you.

Probably. Although some games allow for editing of save locations, not all do.

However one thing I do, is I run My Documents off my D: drive. You can move that around via windows configuration and in my experience games using My Documents aren't explicitly looking for the C: drive. The upside is it's less work if something bad happens to my OS drive. And I don't have to worry about making sure to save all that stuff if I need/want to format and install Windows.

This won't help clean up your My Documents, but if your goal is to free up some space on C: that's one way to do it.

No I uninstall stuff when I am done with it so it wasn't a space thing. Just would prefer old saves be somewhere I go far less frequently until next time I want to play it.

Hmm, in that case, maybe GameSaveManager might be a nice little assistance to you.

It won't fix your desire to move your game saves usage. But it is bloody awesom eat administering and backing up saves, ESPECIALLY if there's games you haven't played in a while.

Apologies replying to old thread but it shows as first result on google. My workaround was to create a new folder called "document", put it in quick access, and remove the "documents" folder from quick access.

Hiding all the saves would be an easier solution

I'm just curious if giving Steam access to my Documents folder means they can see/read/write other files besides game files. I use that folder for quite a bit of personal info I don't want Steam having access to.

lol ok, I was just asking if giving steam access opens those other files to being viewed by an external source. If so, I'd move the files, if it's just writing game saves, no big deal. All that didn't really answer the question

Mmkayy. yeah, I couldn't find an answer really, so thought I'd come here. oh well.

Other Solutions move Document folder to other drive if you have such. ( if i recall correctly right click and select d: drive if you have that. ) then location path.

Yeah, without a sure answer on what "access" i'm granting, sounds like move the other files elsewhere is the plan, but thanks for a useful answer. I'm on a mac, so bit different, but appreciate the input.
