Playing steam games over LAN, no internet connection
Zero. None. If your suggestion involves the internet, please move on.

Ok, myself and a friend both have steam and we are trying to play ARK, 7 days, etc. I have a cat 6 crossover cable and our computers are talking to each other. But when we host a game, it does not appear to the other computer.

Firewalls are off.

Ideas please?

Not every game (infact today it's near dead) supports LAN. Simple as that.

LAN MP still relies on Steam to do the authorization of clients. ASM also relies on Steam to actually launch the dedicated server, it just makes that process slighly not as painful. You can't create a fully offline LAN mode for Ark

LAN for Ark simply means getting all the lan clients to see the server but fundamentally the clients and the server still need steamworks to authorize all clients.
