Assertion Failed
I have a friend who is new to Steam. She got it so she would be able to play remote play games with me. However, whenever I invite her to a game; the message "Assertion Failed" pops up for her. It doesn't matter the game, it does it for all of the ones I have. My only guess is that it has something to do with my computer being a PC, and hers being a Mac. However, I'm not sure. It'd be great if anyone could help us out. We're willing to try whatever.
Just break it down simply for me. I am not the best at computers ^-^;

It MUST be available for Mac and PC, and very likely the games you're trying aren't available for her version of mac software, or not at all.

bump?

I don't know what to suggest, but just a polite note - don't bump threads. It's against the rules.

It'd be silly to get an infraction from the mods on top of your frustrations.

Oops. I didn't know that. It's kinda hard to get a response when it gets buried. Thanks

Yeah, things move very fast on here. But the thing is, as they move fast, it also means people are seeing it. If you don't get a response it's not because nobody's seen it. It's because we don't have an answer.

That sucks. Hopefully there is a fix for this, but since a Google search couldn't help me; maybe not...

What specific game?

Does it work for her on her mac? Is it specifically able to be cross-platform play? If it works successfully for both of you on your respective devices, but NOT connecting to one another (has she tried inviting YOU to her game? have you tried using ... whatever that new Steam thing is they tried foisting on us during the holiday sale?) it may be a compatibility issue. It might also just be that Steam is doing maintenance - if this is only happening *today*, it's Tuesday and that may be an effect of maintenance, or heavy loads from the quarantine.

I have several local co-op games that I have successfully remote played with my other friends. It is only her that this is a problem with. Leading me to believe it has nothing to do with the game.
She's new to gaming and Steam, so she does not have any games herself yet. However, she has been having struggles finding a game that will work on her computer. I believe the Assertion Failure is also to blame for this.
Some games are built both for Mac and PC, but not all. I've kinda been trying all the ones in my library.
I am the only person who owns the games to invite people to.
I'm not totally sure what the new Steam thing is that they brought during the holiday sale ^-^;
We've tried it on several different days, but is always the same. Meanwhile, I am able to play with my other friends on said day just fine.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

With a combination of her trying Steam on a different computer she owned, and double checking which games were compatible with both PC and Mac, we were able to get remote play to work!
