So when I've pressed the key you've told me what will I have to do then...is it straight forward?
Thanks for your help with this btw
If I can offer a general bit of guidance, as I use various gamepads and controllers mixed and matched all over as I have many computers, consoles, etc.
First off, even widely supported controllers for Windows, like the Xbox One controller will not be guaranteed to work in all games, as it depends on each individual game. It's an easy thing for new users to fall for as you'd think that Windows supporting it could mean it works on everything that operates on Windows.
So, it really is a case by case basis, and even checking the game's specs and notes isn't perfect.
What I recommend you do BEFORE purchasing any game to use with it, is to first check the finer details on the store page for that game. As I said, it should mention on there somewhere if it has controller support, and if it does, it's almost certainly going to be OK for a widely supported pad like your Logitech. Note Steam games are pretty well labelled, in that they can say "controller support" or "partial controller support" - this latter one meaning much like what you've already experienced: the controller not working in menus but working in game, or something like that.
But if you either can't find exact details on the store page, your next step should be to check that individual game's discussion pages here. Someone else is BOUND to have asked the magic question "does this game support controller?" so you should find the answer there. And if not, you can always post there to ask.
Lastly, even if you end up with a game that you'd love to use the controller for but it doesn't officially support yours, you can often workaround by using community-created drivers or something. There's one for the PS4 and PS3 controllers that I still use to this day. It basically emulates it being an XBox controller.
I hope you find this helpful for your future purchases.
Haha I'm still not sure how I'm supposed to get it to work. I'll give it another go tomorrow, not sure exactly what "give it a go " will entail, but I'll try and figure something out.
Failing that, I'll give it up as s bad job and find something else to pass the time.
Because I'm so utterly clueless with this I wouldn't even want to check compatibility on another game just in case I couldn't get that to work either for whatever reason and wasted more money.
Think I'll have to get the guitar out instead and play some music rather than games👍
Don't suffer as we can absolutely get this working correctly.
Let me start by checking a few things.
First off you said it plugged in and worked. Do you mean you plugged it in and it was detected and working in Windows, or do you mean it actually was working in game?
If the former, then aside from the advice I pointed out above (about checking the store page and forums), then if it says it should work, then we need to get it working for you.
Commonly when issues like controller being detecting and appearing to work fine in one thing but then not at all in another, the most common problem is that the drivers for it need updating.
I'm not personally familiar with the logitech joypad, but did it come with some bundled software - a UI perhaps whre you can set certain things on it? If it did, there may be an option on there to check for the most up to date drivers. If so, click it, and it should do the process of acquiring them and installing them.
Try those things and report back. We'll get there. Not that I'm saying DON'T play guitar (I'm stuck in bed with my laptop and my synths dotted all over my bed), just that you should be able to do something you really want to do now.
So, I bought the controller about 1 year ago to play games on the Gamefly app which was installed on my Samsung tv. It worked fine on there.
Tonight I found out that the Gamefly no longer exists and after a quick Google search found Steam. I plugged the receiver in to the usb port and both my desk top and laptop found the controller straight away. I created an account in Steam and purchased a 32p game with the sole purpose of making sure that the controller worked before I spent more money on a "proper" game. When playing the cheap game I had to use my mouse to press start but then all the controls on my controller worked withing the actual game ie foward, back, jump etc.
Then I purchased CoD. The controller didn't work in the game at all and when I went in to control settings (in CoD) the only options I was given was to configure the keys on my key pad.
And that's pretty much where I got to.
No worries at all. I'll definitely give that a go tomorrow. It's after midnight now so gone to bed. Cheers and I'll let you know if I have some success.
I've tried this but nothing happens at all - that is presuming that I am doing it right.
I can't believe that it is so hard to try and play a game!!
