How to change DirectX settings for a game
Hello, I recently installed a very old game called Dawn Of War - this was from the way back in time when they used to use directX. the beginning of the game install asks me what resolution I want to display.

I made a mistake. I want to change this. I uninstalled the game and attempted to reinstall, no luck, it appears those settings are stored either in the registry or with the local directX distribs. How can i get the settings to come back up so I can make a change?

delete the save file on the system if no registry entry.

usually settings are displayed in the game though?

you can also try to verify integrity of cache since for some games that will force-reset settings.

Where would I look in my registry? Do you know what path to check?

No these settings are for DirectX - they are not accessible in the game. I need to set the default resolution to 1920x1080 32bit - and I cannot do this from the game options, i checked.

How do i verify integrity of cache?

right click, properties, local, verify integrity
No luck, it eventually says, 2 files failed integrity, will be re-aquired. game launches in the same resolution as before. I think i need to proabably delete the distributables and have it get re-downloaded. I'll poke around in program files
The resolution solution> refer to Tim's comment 9th down from the top.
Is there anyway to get DoW into either 1920x1080 or at least fill the monitor up?

If your GPU is newish it will support older directx unless it gives you the option to use a diferent version when opening the game.
Windows 10 auto updates this stuff.
You also dont need to change the x64 to x32 thats automatic
R/click the launcher on desktop and run in compability mode for windows 7.
Update drivers for your gpu since they dont seem to be working.
I can play older games fine.
Modern games still use directx on desktop.
see this
DOW 2 WILL NOT RUN ON WINDOWS 10.

The game is running - thats not the issue. The problem is I selected the wrong resolution for the game, and now I cannot seem to get the dialog back which allowed me to configure it in the first place. here is a screenshot of what the dialog looks like. you have *one* chance to select what you want, after, there does not appear to be a way to get to it.

and I am running windows 10 professional GEForce GTX 960m

Oh. Actually i dont see where i can upload a screenshot
I was editing it with a solution for the resolution
and just explained the directX stuff.
See edited version :)
good luck
OK - got it to work. I had to completely delete the game out of
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common

and then it will re-download the distributables it needs when you launch the game for the first time. I can then re-select the settings for direct-x. There's probably an easier way to do this but this is the way I got it to work.
Juanita, I just saw that. Thank you!!!!

Functionality depends on the game's ability to use parameters after the exe file. The startup is then game.exe -dx11. With the linked shortcut, you can do the same without the steam platform and this is way how it work with steam platform.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
