Add to Workshop Collection Issue with one Mod only.
I have one, and only one item, I am unable to add to a Workshop Collection...any collection.

When attempting to add the mod directly from the author's page I get this error:

"There was a problem adding this item to the following collections:
Active Play Mods - unknown failure"

Pretty common, usually I can refresh the page and it is fine. This time, not so much after several attempts.

TROUBLESHOOTING:
I then attempted to add it to my favorites and add it through editing the collection. After hitting the plus sign the page refreshes but nothing happens. It does not turn the dark blue nor say "remove from collection". It stays gray as if I never selected to add it. However, the other items in my favorites I can add just fine and remove just fine.

I then added another mod, by the same author to a different collection with no issues. I attempted to add the problem mod to the same collection as the one I had success with. Nope, same error repeatedly.

I have tried 3 different Web browsers Firefox, Chrome and Edge. Also inside the Steam client itself and even launched the game and tried to do it through the Steam Overlay. I then rebooted my computer and retried all of the above again.

I checked with my own creations and it does not appear an author can prevent it from being added to a collection (and I highly doubt this author would ever do that anyway). So I am thoroughly baffled why this one mod cannot be added.

It originally was in the collection as well. I had an issue with this same mod that when I clicked "Subscribe to all" at the top would not subscribe to so I would need to scroll down and sub to it separately each time. Finally just decided to remove it and readd it to the collection as a troubleshooting step for THAT issue. Now I cannot add it at all.

Only this one mod will NOT go into a collection.

Any help would be amazing or any other work around or if someone else gets it to add! LOL

EDIT: Mine was that the mod at the time was "Unlisted" by the author

I think I have figured it out. It is unlisted by the author, not hidden. I know for a fact Realistic Population and Lifebalance are definitely unlisted because there is an updated version for each of those and the original author is pointing people who already have it to go there, hence why they say Deprecated in each of their descriptions.
Thanks for posting about this!
I'm getting the same error message. I am unable to add ANY items (mod & asset) to a collection from any game. Oddly, late June I created 2 Cities Skylines collections with no issues adding items via their page. Now, newly created collections pops up the error msg, whenever adding an item.

Steam support didn't know and suggested to 'look online for help' :[ . I already tried the same steps you have listed as well.

The only exception in my case; I can add/remove items while editing the collection. However that is a tedious process with sorting CSL mods/assets.

Not expecting any advice, just adding to the thread for other users.

Adding myself to this issue. I cannot add anything to my Collections from the author's page. I've tried everything. (And I still cannot see what I'm subscribed to unless I click on each individual item.) This shouldn't be so tedious. There has to be a better way to help customers/gamers organize.

To add to the conversation --I am having the same issue; reported it to Steam Support eight days ago. The reply today was "I do not have a fix for you at this time."

-- I play Cities Skylines with almost 100 mods and 3000 assets and, I'm having no problems opening, saving or playing the game. I am careful to watch for conflicts between mods and to keep subscribed assets up to date.
-- I can add and remove assets and mods from previously created Collections without a problem.
-- I can create new Collections with no problem.
-- I can add an asset from the dropdown list of Favourites or subscribed items WHILE creating a Collection

But I can no longer add an asset (ANY asset) to a new Collection after I've created it.

And reply from Steam Support: "We can't fix your problem", "Ask someone else" , "Closing the Help request". -- Useless.

Steam is ridiculuously outrageous and tragic and useless. I wonder what they are paid for.
And did they close your tickets too just like that because they don't want to have any issues?
I have the same problem.
The only way around, if you haven't got many assets to add is by editing a collection and adding that asset/mod form the list of subscribed items or favourited ones - which is absolutely useless if you have more than one asset.
Plus another problem there is that the subscibed items list doesn't show all items - anyone there whose list finishes on a specific letter in the middle of the alphabet or just towards end of it? The list is in alphabetical order obviously.

I have sent a ticket on that - they replied basically that they don't care.

With the way Steam treats customer support tickets like that, that tells me that they've become complacent that they're at the top and eventually their hubris will come back to bite them. Better give the Epic Store a run for their money then lol.

Do you think that we would be better off complaining to valve directly?

I wouldn't bet on it.

As I reported in the other Discussion on this issue: This "unfixable" (per Steam Support) issue seems to have mysteriously corrected itself. I can add and delete assets to previously made Collections, create a new Collections, and now I can add an asset to the new Collection as well. All appears back to normal.
