That being said, stuff breaks, most likely a coincidence it happened while playing division 2.
I don't know where else to get help :(
Time to swap out components, start with another PSU if you have a spare, and see if yoiu can boot with it.
Would it still be the PSU even though the radiator is what smells?
Also is it atleast a good sign that my motherboard lights up for a few seconds? Lol
Unfortunately I have 0 spare parts, it took over a year to even build this PC, so I'll have to (unwillingly) bring it to a PC shop and pay them to look at it. :/
If you know the source, try to find visible clues. Disconnect electricity first.
Yeah the fans, and motherboard still flicker to life for about 2 seconds (motherboard having a 5 second idle light) so I'm hopeful that means they're atleast safe
It's a bizzare situation as I've never seen this before, but I believe all my parts are within the 3 year window so I'm crossing my fingers for "good" news.
Perhaps it was a faulty circuitry, overheated because of the heat sink, etc. Even dust in the hardware in some rare cases can damage the components, because it can block the ventilation.
But isn't the system supposed to power down at certain temperatures to avoid damage?
That smell is horrible. I had a vid card burn up one time while I was out a few hours (wasn't even gaming just from the computer being on) and I came home from work one morning and my router of all things had burned up.
That smell though is awful :/
Shouldn't my surge protector protect against that?
It also seems to still be working fine, along with everything else plugged into it.
Regardless I dropped it off at a repair shop a few hours ago, it ain't free but $45 is worth knowing what failed on me.
See I was wondering if it could happen while it's just in idle to, good to know for the future!
I probably won't be leaving my PC on while I leave the house anymore. Haha
A surge protector only protects against up to a specific amount before it will fail. Anything beyond that can cause damage to a computer.
