Installed new GPU with different company now mic doesn't work on steam

My mic works when I go to recording devices and check my levels but when I go to things such as Steam or Skype it's completely mute. The only thing my mic works on is Discord. Does it have to do something with my new graphics card or Drivers? When I check the voice options on steam it doesn't detect any sound on the meter they give you and same with Skype. I moved from an AMD r9 285 to a GTX 1060 and uninstalled all the drivers for AMD and installed Nvidia ones.

Specs:

MB: MSI 970 GAMING
GPU: GTX 1060
CPU: AMD fx 3750
RAM: 4gb RA
PS: CX750

I moved this to Hardware and Operating Systems because it doesn't sound like a Steam-specific problem, but instead it sounds like a general hardware & software problem.

Go your sound options and make sure you have your defaults set. Make sure the right device is selected under each individual app. Typically, programs will use the defaults set under Windows.

That is a generic device label. If you have more than one possible mic or line in, then it may very well not be the correct one. Since it is not working, I'd say it is not.

Access Windows sound options under Sound. Right click the sound icon on the bottom right and select recording devices. Might want to take a look at what is defaulted under playback, while you are there. Considering that you most likely installed the HD audio driver when you did your Nvidia driver update, it would be worth making sure the right device is selected as default device and default communication device.

Nope. That was the problem.

Bump I am having the same problem, I have been trying to fix for weeks and nothing has helped. Steps that I have taken:

Uninstall/Reinstall Steam
Checked Mic settings in windows, selected default,disabled others.
Used AMD tool to remove all AMD drivers
Uninstalled NVIDIA shadowplay / geforce experience,
Reinstalled NVIDIA drivers.


Mic level is rising in windows, but is not rising in steam voice tab

I also started having this problem after installing a new EVGA Geforce GTX 1060 to replace an AMD Radeon 7900 series

Any help is desperately appreciated
