Currently it seems to be still working, and support at this point only means, that new features are not necessarily made compatible with XP and Vista.

If you want to be a bit on the safe side, this guide contains download links to previous Steam versions as well as a way to prevent updates.

You could also use the launch commands
-noverifyfiles -nobootstrapupdate -skipinitialbootstrap -norepairfiles -overridepackageurl
which have the effect to surpress the use of updates.

this weeks update was the one that implimented the changes that cause Vista and XP to no longer be able to access the servers.. time to upgrade dude
I wonder what will happen to Win.7. If I going be forced to change to Win.10 only to continue using Steam. I quiet frankly find very wrong.

It will happen eventually, but given how similar 7 and 10 are on the backend it won't happen for awhile.. and even then it won't be an issue, not only have most of 10s issues been worked out by users with 7 are still entitled to a free 10 license as 7 and 8 keys are built into the 10 key database, meaning with no cost involved people will have 0 excuse
