Desktop icons changed into .url files
After an Update of Windows I think all my Steam Game Icons changed into .url Files. Within ist the correct steam::\\xxxxxxx and .ico path.
If I make a new Icon from within Steam it makes another .url File. How can I change this or what happend ?
Thanks for any advice

You now see the extension of a file. By the looks. Thats good for safety.
They were always url files.

OF course I can start the games within Steam, but even I make another new desktop link it produces an .url files instead of the right Icon. So what can one do ? a cache somewhere an update of something or just bite in wood :steammocking:

Did you try to simply double click these .url-files? As Muppet among Puppets already said, the desktop-links for your Steam-Games were always url-files and the update(s) you mentioned seems to only made the extension (as .url) visible. There should be no difference in use ...

This is a listing of such a file:
[{000214A0-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}]
Prop3=19,0
[InternetShortcut]
IDList=
IconIndex=0
URL=steam://rungameid/598960
IconFile=C:\Eigene-Programme\Steam\steam\games\af2d2d5bfa9c0a06466c341884e40efee63387b5.ico

I know about the url but it looks more strange ;-)

I find it more strange that windows doesnt show file extensions without enabling it.

for all helped me, I solved it. Should have found out myself.
Windows or something changed the linked app to the extension.
Changed .url file back to Internet Explorer and all fine

I always un-check the 'Hide extensions for known file types' in Folder Options. It's always good to know what something is.

What is it showing now, as you open these url files with IE instead of with steam?

sorry i mistyped internet explorer with Internet Browser. This changed in no time all .url Files into Steamicons back. Tip came from steam support. Windows changed me this, but I can't find out why.
So it wasnt about the extension but the icon image themself
