Slow steam download speeds
So I just got new internet and I'm currently getting slow speeds downloading through steam. I got 10 MBps before and I'm still getting 10 MBps even though my internet is almost 5x faster. Also I know the difference between megabytes and megabits so don't post about that please. I also don't think I'm limited by my disk or cpu because I get over 200 MBps write on my SSD and I never use over 30% cpu when downloading steam games.
Heres my speedtest: https://www.speedtest.net/result/8157053691

Have you tried changing to several different download regions, including some very far away from you ?

I would try that, and make sure to try several as I suggested here.

I tried that but it didn't work. I tried pakistan and many different US servers. still 10 mbps

Describe your network hardware. Router, router/modem combo unit, extenders, etc.

If you can and it applies, I would be using ethernet only directly from the source unit (modem) to the PC to test this with. That eliminates any possible issues where they may happen at the router.

Process of elimination, being the method.

I don't think its my router because I get full download in chrome only. But my modem is an Aris Surfboard sb6190 and my router is a Google wifi router. I'm also using a TB-Link 1 GB switch connected directly to my PC using ethernet. I ordered a new network card because steam download caps at around 100 Mbps in task manager, and my motherboard is a few years old at this point, so maybe its just that my motherboard can't handle these speeds for game downloads.

I highly doubt it has anything to do with your motherboard, but the network card being mentioned add another question mark to the troubleshooting. However, making sure all device drivers, including network controllers of course, are fully up to date for your OS is never a bad idea. Check the manufacturer's website for new drivers, and don't always trust Windows (if using Windows 10) to do that for you, if you do.

Are you saying you have a network card now, or you are just planning on getting one and installing it due to this issue you have now ?

I would still suggest bypassing the router while you are troubleshooting this issue. We see routers be the issue here very often. It's even suggested by Valve on support pages :

Wireless and powerline connections can cause intermittent failures due to interference. If possible, test Steam with a direct wired connection to determine if this is a problem. An Internet speed test may also help you identify problems related to local link quality.

No, you don't have a connection issue in this case, but it's still relevant to download speeds so bypassing the router, just for now, eliminates that as another possibility. You even said you just got new internet, so the hardware that they may have provided to you, if that applies, surely could be related to the issue.

I can only suggest what was said here, and to bypass all wireless hardware and use safe mode with networking, changing regions while in that boot. That eliminates most of the common causes of this issue, from what we have seen here at least.

I solved it. I have a hardware antivirus thing that I got sent for free and that was throttling my speeds to 10 MBps.

Nicely done finding it out and thanks for the reply as to what it was, as that might help others that see this. Good luck to you always.
